“Break using Groupon”
Reviewed December 31, 2011

Just returned from night at the Halland Forge Hotel. We used Groupon for the first time and we had excellent value for money.
We are an ordinary couple who decided to have a night away for my birthday. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful calling us sir and madam. The hotel was lovely and clean with a gorgeous log fire burning in the restaurant/bar area.
The room was spacious with flat screen tv, very clean bathroom, linen etc.
We had a bottle of sparkling wine in the room with afternoon tea, evening meal and breakfast.
We dont live that far from Lewes and we are already planning to visit the hotel again for tea.
We have read all the reviews on this hotel and dont understand what people want for there money. and for what we paid we think we had the room for nothing.
Dont dismiss this hotel because it is definately worth a visit.

Handilly situated on a roundabout south of Uckfield and north of Eastbourne on the A22, it looks inviting and with a lrage car park.

Inside the decor is on the verge of shabby and the food. We had a dinner which was so disappointing. How good ingrediants can end up without flavour, and swamped in a packet gravy in this day and age defies imagination. Service was acceptable. The only exceptional experience was the speedy clearing up of a spilled glass of wine, and chair replacement.

So. A disappointing experience from a place with so much outward promise.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, away from the road.

Although booked on Groupon at a very low price I would rather have driven home than stayed in the grim room. We had the cream tea, booked another hotel and left.

We were made very welcome here by the hotel manager and other staff. The afternoon tea consisted of a large, very fresh, scone - though not clotted cream - and a piece of cake & pot of tea, which was more than enough ahead of a very good carvery where the chef was extremely generous with the meat. Full English breakfast was very good, with eggs freshly prepared to order. The restaurant and lounge area was very pleasant and comfortable. Although situated on a very busy roundabout we were not disturbed by traffic noise. Our room, though a little tired regarding decoration, was very clean and spacious. I don't see how anybody could complain that this was not good value for money.

Room Tip: This motel-style hotel has rooms in a two storey block adjoining the reception and restaurant areas...

Just been to The Halland Forge on the Goupon deal.
Nice cream tea ,had the waiter microwave my sconce so much nicer warm, bottle of prosecco
in room on ice ,very nice, and two course meal .
The room was ok , really could do with make over , wall colour ,curtains and bed linens bit dated, but clean, bathroom was fine.
Good value as on Goupon , not sure pay normal price though !

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms best ,as only one row top and bottom, lower rooms peole walking past your window

My partner and I decided to have a break away and we booked the Halland Forge through a deal on Groupon. After reading up on the hotel and also by looking at the pictures provided on Groupon depicting an afternoon tea fit for Royalty we where very disgruntaled when an old tray came out with a canteen style tea pot on it, 2 Rock Hard scones and some squirted cream in a pot. This was the beginning!

We decided that we would graciously have tea and then head back to the room - The room was dark, Smelt damp and it was not that clean. The windows had water on the inside and generally the room appeared "tired"

We soon vacated the room and carried on with our weekend, AWAY FROM THE HOTEL.

We attended dinner later on that evening where we were given our seats, We ordered a starter and we waited, and waited and waited until half an hour had passed, We asked where our starters were as other people had been served theres, to be told, the chef had burnt our food and he had to start again.

The carvery was tastey though so i can not fault this.

All in all, i would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone - I was extremely disappointed in our stay.

Our stay at this hotel was great! We had an upstairs room which was spacious and clean. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The food was good - we had a delicious cream tea in the afternoon and dinner & breakfast were also lovely. Thanks to the staff for making our stay so enjoyable. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel - excellent value for money.
