I've eaten at the Maple Tree several times. Its always a good place to start off with for a first date. The atmosphere is conducive to romance, and the wait staff are superb. There are a large selection of unique drinks so dont be afraid to try something different. It has a mardis gras theme and if you are daring, try the purple beer! If you get there early enough, ususally when the doors first open, there are two tables tucked in a dimly lit corner that are the best for a date. The prices are moderate. So if you're in the south suburbs, make this your first option!

We went the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week with family whom we were visting for the holiday. Our host had eaten here before and was so complimentary that we were expecting a great meal. Despite the restaurant not being the least bit crowded, every entree and side dish arrived lukewarm. The portions and flavors were promising, but being served food that is not hot is a real disappointment. Each person in our party assumed that it was only their dish that was problematic so no one chose to send their entree back so as not to disrupt the dinner or potentially embarass our host. In talking afterwards, however, we discovered that the problem was universal and our host was really upset. Needless to say, no one in our party will return.

Maple Tree in Blue Island has great Cajun food. Crawfish Etouffe is wonderful, as are the crabcakes, corn fritters, jambalaya and gumbo, Thats all i sampled this visit. Very friendly, casual ambience, background jazz music really adds to party atmosphere, kind of like Treme on HBO. The veranda overlooks the river and the traintracks, lots of trees. pleasant.

This place has great Cajun food. The amount of food was top notch along with a great selection of craft beer that changes with the season. It is a small restaurant with limited outside seating. The staff knows the food as well as the selection of beers. They certainly can help if you cant decide what you want. This is definitely a must try.

Tucked away on Olde Western Avenue is probably some of the finest Cajun food you'll find outside of Louisiana. We shared two of the nightly specials, a Cajun style catfish & chips and an orange glazed shredded beef served on a cornbread cake. The fish was battered, deep fried, spicy and it was served with a Cajun tartar sauce and was possibly the lightest and best fried fish I've ever eaten. The two huge fish filets were served with a side of decent Cajun fries and a wonderful peanut cole slaw. The beef dish was scrumptious! Two large cornbread cakes piled high with the shredded beef and accompanied with an okra mixture side quickly disappeared from our plates. Even though we had no room left, we decided to share the evening special of Bananas Foster Bread Pudding and it was wonderful! The service was excellent and with a glass of wine each, 2 entrees and desert, the bill was just under $60. Quite a bargain for such a great meal. Definitely will return.
