We spent a very enjoyable weekend at Nafferton Farm Bed and Breakfast this month. The B&B is located in Brancepeth, Co. Durham, just a short distance from Durham City, making it an excellent location for a trip to the city. Sandra and Brian, the hosts, were very welcoming and not at all overwhelming or whacky as some B&B owners (in my experience) tend to be. They were lovely, ordinary people and very easy to get on with.

We arrived on Friday evening and found the farm with very little trouble, although it is slightly off the main road. The house itself dates back to something like the early 1800s and is set in the middle of the farm fields in a beautiful cottage garden, so the location is very peaceful, with all the sounds and smells you might expect from a working farm.
Our room (one of two) was very spacious and tastefully decorated, with a modern shower room en-suite. The room was well appointed for a B&B, with TV, small fridge, complimentary wine and even fresh milk in the fridge for your tea or coffee in the morning, which I thought was a lovely touch.
Due to leaving early the next morning we didn't have time for a full breakfast, but Sandra made sure there was cerial, toast, coffee, orange juice and milk ready for us, so we didn't leave on an empty stomach. After a long day in the city we returned around 10pm and sat in the garden for a while to enjoy the surroundings, only to be joined by our hosts who offered wine, tea or coffee to drink, and we spent a very pleasant 30 minutes chatting to them about life on the farm, etc.
Breakfast on Sunday morning was a full English, and there was plenty of good quality foor including locally-sourced products. The food was delicious - there was even fried bread, which you don't often see on the menu these days.
We made arrangements to leave our car for the day and pick it up later, which wasn't a problem at all. All in all it was a lovely weekend and I would definitely recommend Nafferton Farm if you're lucky enough to get a room!
