I've been to Chicago several times and generally stay right downtown. However, this time there were no rooms available because of all the graduations. We decided to stay at the Hampton Inn and will definitely be back! Upon checking in, we received our parking passes (which is $13/day after tax. Much cheaper than parking downtown). The front desk staff was very friendly and extremely helpful in answering all the questions we had about the shuttle. The shuttle takes you right to the front door of the airport and they then give you a little orange card with directions and instructions on where to go/what to do upon arriving back at the airport. The shuttle arrives at the hotel about every 20 minutes from 4 AM to 4 PM, after that you must call them from the airport or have the front desk call them. We never waited more than 10-15 minutes for the shuttle to arrive, both coming and going.
We took the El downtown, which we had never done before, and it was very, VERY easy. All of the locals were helpful when we had questions (which were often!).
The rooms were very clean - the only thing was that at first when we turned on our A/C there was a significant smell. After the A/C had been on for a while, it disappeared. Probably because it hasn’t been on much yet this year. The breakfast was great - they have eggs, sausage, waffles, fruit, bagels, etc. I would definitely recommend staying at Midway as opposed to O'Hare if possible - it's much closer to downtown Chicago and so much easier to get around.
