“I finally found Heaven on Earth.”
Reviewed April 24, 2009

Just 12km from Port Douglas, this is the most amazing place to set off to explore one of Mother Natures greatest gifts to us, "The Great Barrier Reef". Out on its own headland, with private beach, Bungalows are scattered throughout the rainforest offering luxury, privacy and complete tranquility. Travelling alone, I found the staff all warm and welcoming, making me feel completely at home and organising all of my activities, including a trip to the reef, a horse ride along the beach and a trip to the Daintree Rainforest. The Day Spa was in a Bungalow at the end of a small track, my 2 hour treatment was blissful, leaving no trace of stress or tension in this little body. I have no hesitation in recommending this property to any one going to see the Reef and Daintree. Whilst the Resort offers seclusion, Port Douglas is only a short trip, in the free shuttle bus, where there are plenty of Restaurants and Shops. The Restaurant at the Resort though, was where I chose to eat most meals. My god they have the most amazing seafood there. Meals were all delicious and the views world class. I love this place, I wouldn't change a thing and will definitely be going back. I have attached a few pictures for you too. Enjoy!!!

We had the pleasure of staying at Thala for 6 days (13 March 2009-19 March 2009).

The whole experience was without doubt simply spectacular.

The resort itself is beautiful but the staff are the stars and deserve to be recognised for their professionalism, humour and willingness to go that extra mile.

The smallest of things, such as the birthday card that greeted me when I walked into our bungalow for the first time speak volumes.

We stayed in a Coral Sea bungalow on a Reef & Rainforest package and it was worth every cent.

The food was divine.

The tours Dianna organised, Sailaway Low Isles and Daintree Dreaming, were the perfect choices for us.

The in-house activities, Nature Walks, Coconut Plantation, Birdwatching & Indigenous evening were additional highlights.

Our only regret is that we didn’t have more time to spend just hanging around the resort.

To Dianna, Chris (Gin & Squash, no ice thanks!), Ray, Monique, David, David, David, Hamish, Caroline, Nigel & Brett (apologies to anyone we may have missed) as well as everyone behind the scenes who all contributed to making our stay a very memorable one, a very big thankyou!

We have already decided we will be returning in November 2009 to celebrate the next 50th.

We will look forward to seeing you all again.

Kim & Rox

We visited Thala beach for 5 nights when visiting the East coast of Australia. When we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and that feeling stayed with us for the duration of the holiday. The staff make this resort. Everyone was pleasant friendly and professional.
We upgraded to a Coral Sea View bungalow which had fabulous views and although all the bungalows are the same the views are well worth the extra charge.
During our stay we went to the private beach at the hotel which is lovely but it is box jelly fish season from Nov- May so we could not swim in the sea unless you find a beach along the coast that has stinger nets. We spent a day exploring all the beaches from Thala down to Cairns and it was a fabulous day. The beaches are beautiful and quiet with very few people. Most have picnic tables and toilets.
Diana at the hotel organised our trips for us which included a castaway trip with www.skysafari.com.au day trip which was a helicopter ride over the Reef, and rainforest with lunch on a castaway beach. Martin our pilot was exceptional. The experience was out of this world.
We also booked a skyrail trip to Kuranda and a return on the train with goldclass ticket (first class carriage that included drinks and nibbles) you are able to visit the Kuranda wildlife experience and cuddle a Koala. Both trips are highly recommended.
We joined the star gazing trip at the hotel where Rose from reception took us to a quiet area within the grounds. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would like to personally thank Rose for sharing her enthusiasm and knowledge of the stars with us.
We would highly recommend this resort and would like to thank David and Peter for all the running around they did with the car. the valet service is excellent due to these guys.
Monique on reception was always pleasant and helpful.
Thankyou Thala for such a lovely stay.

We stayed at Thala beach for 6 nights when visiting Australia. Upon arrival we could not believe the breathtaking views that surrounded us. Once we were taken to our room the view was absolutely stunning. We stayed in a Coral Sea View bungalow which was extremely clean and remote. We had a couple of room mates (gecko's) which was not unexpected as we are staying in the rainforest !!! If you walked around the resort's tracks you would come across many creatures. We encountered a monitor lizard, crossing our path, various lizards and toads at night. The rainforest comes alive at night and the noises are wonderful if not a bit loud at times, we would recomend ear plugs when trying to sleep !!
During our stay we went to the beach however it was box jelly fish season so we could not swim in the sea, however this did not spoil our stay.
The staff organised our trips for us which included a Barrier Reef day trip and a helicopter ride over the Reef, both are highly recommended.
We would highly recommend this resort however it would be unsuitable for the disabled.

We booked our stay at Thala last minute after a change in plans. We got a great deal on the price and hoped it was a nice place. When we got there we were just amazed. The staff were fantastic, so helpful, anything you wanted (within reason!) they would help organise. Our bungalow was very clean and welcoming with a balcony surrounded by bush. The open air restaurant/breakfast room overlooked the bush and sea, along with the cocktail bar behind it overlooking the bush and sea in the opposite direction. The pool is small but relaxing with it's rock pools and jacuzzi rock pool. The lodge has all information about tours and trips in Port Douglas and the surrounding area and can organise them for you. Pick-ups are all organised so you won't need a car unless you're exploring further afield on your own. The lodge also organised their own nature tours onsite such things as The Coconut Tour and Star-gazing. The tour guides (who work at the lodge in other positions too) are so knowledgeable and it was a lot of fun to join in on the onsite tours. The lodge also has a shuttle that runs into Port Douglas and back regularly each day. The place was so relaxing and just so comfortable I would totally recommend it to anyone looking to escape from the rat race and just relax. It is a place in which you can totally relax and forget about everything and just enjoy the nature surrounding you. You'll wake up to the sound of birds, gheckos, toads and many other animals as well as the sound of waves just outside your bungalow. We were sad to leave.

Tranquility, romance, peaceful rainforest retreat!!
Thala is modern day luxury as close to nature as possible. Unassuming and blending in to the natural beaty of tropical QLD.
100% recommended.. you need more than 4 days to truly appreciate this magical place.
Go go Go.. a must see. Rock pool as a swimming pool! DIVINE!

Stayed for 4 nights of relaxation during a trip round australasia. The cabins are spread out around the site and are perfectly private, well appointed and contain everything a travveller needs. The staff were unfailingly helpful and dealt with minor foibles (wanting to know when best to leqve to catch a plane from Cairns) with equanimity. The bar was well stocked and restaurant good - if a little fussy.

The location is just terrific; the views over the rain forest to the ocean spectacular The grounds are extensive and well managed for both flora and fauna. We took the (free) nature tour with the head gardener (Brett) who was very informative and a bundle of enthusiasm.
A free shuttle runs regularly to Port Douglas which is worth a visit.
