“Great Place to Relax and Unwind”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

My husband and I recently returned from a lovely week in Great Guana Cay, where we rented a house and spent the week reading, relaxing, eating too much and snorkeling! The island is tiny, and although we had no need of a golf cart given the excellent location of our house, we chose to rent one anyway to have the added flexibility. There is a fairly well stocked grocery store in Guana (we had not had time to shop in Marsh Harbour before our ferry, and only wanted breakfast food and snacks), as well as a liquor/souvenir shop. This is not the island for those seeking excitement, nightlife and loads of restaurants. We ate only at Nippers (good food, great music and spectacular view of the beach), Grabbers (good food, fabulous sunsets and laid back, friendly atmosphere), as well as one awesome lunch at Island Flavours, which unfortunately was only open on weekends (we were there in August) and we didn't get the opportunity to go back.
The locals and tourists alike were very friendly, and it was impossible to go for a walk without being offered a ride on the back of a golf cart to wherever we were going. We snorkelled on the Atlantic side, the Sea of Abaco and on an organized snorkel trip with Dive Guana. While the snorkeling was not as amazing as we had hoped to find, we were impressed with the health of the reef, some of the beautiful coral (particularly fan coral), and we did see some large-ish fish as well as our first ever nurse sharks, which was exciting for us. The beach on the Atlantic side (by Nippers) is truly one of the most spectacular beaches we have seen, and one can walk forever along the most beautiful white sand. It is possible to snorkel from the shore almost anywhere along that beach. Definitely a nice place to visit.

“Great Trip to Great Guana Cay”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

A perfect place for adults to get away. As the island is only 7 miles long, one can walk to any spot in a matter of minutes. Terrific beach below Nippers (Sunday pig roast) to swim and snorkel when the waves are down. Grabbers beach has a great sunset view and very friendly bartenders and servers with very good food. More upscale is Orchid Bay Club overlooking the water; also very well done food. The gem was our rental, Beach Walk Cottage (VRBO). Centrally located with all the amenities. The owners, Tina and Rick were the best; starting us off with a cold six pack and fresh Mahi in the freezer. Be sure to get with Dive Guana where Troy will set you up with a dive trip, rent a boat or a golf cart rental if needed. Note to snorkelers, there is good snorkeling off of Troys dock. The water is clear and there's no waves to speak of; lots of fish around the multiple dock pilings. This island is a great getaway for the traveler who wants to relax and make their our fun. Not much shopping, only two places to buy supplies. Totally would go back.

“Loved it!”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

Went to Guana Cay for a vacation in June of 2013. Very "low key" vacation spot as there wasn't much to do. We planned on bringing our boat and scuba diving/island hopping. Due to our transmission going out in the truck before getting to Florida - we weren't able to do so. Spent most of the time on the beautiful beach on the ocean side.

As I said, it was very "low key" and we spent most of the time on the beach. We rented a golf cart for one day and spent a portion of the day touring the island. The golf cart was great - but not needed as everything in our general area of our house was in walking distance.

The "touristy" merchandise was very limited and I didn't get any merchandise other than from the bar at nippers (which wasn't a great experience).

The locals are extremely friendly and were always willing to engage in conversations regarding their daily life, etc.

Would love to go back!

“Stunningly beautiful water, friendly island”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Simple, low-key vacation in paradise.

We rented a house on the ocean side in April. The colors of the ocean - turquoise through lapis - were unbelievable. There was a constant breeze and no mosquitoes. Water was clear, warm. Some days there was some surf - calmer down the beach towards Nippers. Nippers was not our thing, big drinking scene, but the plus is the beach as a result is almost empty.

Dive Guana was great - well worth one or two days of snorkeling or diving. They also rent bikes and golf carts (the local transportation) Reef was shallow, good for snorkeling. A lot of beautiful fish, though also some algae. The trip that also goes to Man O' War and Hope Town is a good deal for a day trip, easier than taking ferry. Though we loved the ferry!

Be sure to eat at Island Flavors - a small food stand on the dock in the harbor - fish and conch salad there were excellent. Its a very friendly island, people we met were so nice. We found the market to have all we needed for cooking - a great mix of the utilitarian and the more esoteric (goat cheese, almond milk for example). They had good meat and chicken.
