Dollar Mountain is part of the Sun Valley Resort. It's treeless and from my reading, best for the newbies. It has a newer lodge: Carol's Dollar Mountain Lodge, but really nice. On the main floor is the ski school to the left and the food line to the right. Straight ahead is the ski rental store and the doors to the slopes. Downstairs are lockers for rent (bring $1 bills for tokens for the lockers) and rest rooms. Best of all, Dollar Mountain has Tubing Hill with a magic carpet to bring you to the top. It's an awesome way to spend an hour. The lifts have few lines here. We used the ski school and got a private instructor for the 3 of us for 2 hours, but the ski school looked awesome for the kids. They had a great set up. By the way, renting was easy. They can set you up for $29, but you need to bring your own goggles and of course anything apparel related though they sell the basics like gloves (and kid ski pants/ jackets but not adults unlike the bigger mountains).
I can't really rate the slopes because it was all "hard" for me, but I can rercommend the place as a non-intimidating place to learn to ski.
