We have stayed at the Lodge or Inn multiple times over the years. Sadly, the experience has deteriorated. The area still has the old elegant cache and it is a delight to wander the halls looking at old pictures. The staff is numerous, friendly and helpful, but the accomodations are lacking. On the first night we were situated over a bar and awoken to the sound of loud drum music at midnight. First call to the desk we were routed to a night watchman. Second call received sympathy, but no solution. We moved the second day to a room where the t.v. did not work and finally to a third room. The doors do not fit, thus letting lots of light and noise from the hallway. Bed linens are comfy. Carpets old and worn. The golf course has a beautiful clubhouse, but the course maintenance needs some work. I would suggest cheaper and newer places to stay and just visit the lodge.

Wonderful location, accomodations, amenities and opportunities. The Sun Valley Resort is beautifully situated and offers great activities for the family. There are numerous opportunities on site - three pools; bowling alley; ice skating rink; movie theatere; candy store (the boys favorite); tennis courts and a short walk to one of the best outdoor symphonic venues for a series of free summer performances.

Off property, there are plenty of additional outdoor opportunities. Fishing, numerous bike trails, golf and even trap shooting. There are oher lodgig options in the valley
but the Sun Valley Lodge (especially when you book early) is very competitive and even beats the pricing at other properties.

My husband and I bought a package to see Garth Brooks in concert with the Sun Valley Symphony Orchestra. We had never been to Sun Valley/Ketchum. The lodge is beautiful..they have remodeled but many of the original pictures, flooring, and beautiful marble were retained/ They have an outside ice skating rink practically adjacent to the swimming pool. It really is like a self contained little city. We ate dinner at Gretchen's..I had Idaho Trout, my husband had steak. Both were awesome. Service was great. The concert was great. We had a small glitch but when I spoke to management they were on top of it in a heartbeat. I would recommend the Gondola ride to the Roundhouse as well. You really must plan on spending several days to see and do all there is to do. Hats off to a very professional staff that attends to every detail. OH..and the vegetable frittata at Gretchen's for breakfast is a vegetarian's dream!

While older, the Sun Valley Lodge had elegantly furished common areas, lobby, and rooms. We did want an upper floor but, while the upgraded us to a larger room it was on the first floor and had no view.

I loved the grounds surrounding this hotel. Lush landscaping in the summertime, with a lake that had swans! Also next to the Sun Valley Inn, and the area has some nice shopping boutiques, an outdoor ice rink, and a covered ampitheatre with weekend performers.

The food served at the lodge restaurant was above average. My wife and I thought their quesadilla at lunchtime was the best either of us had ever had!

Golf nearby at the Trail Creek course was a challenge and beautiful. Be sure to also check out Ketchum a couple miles away. Good spots for dining and nice atmosphere.

Sun Valley is incredibly beautiful. The Sun Valley Lodge has been around a long time; yet it has been able to maintain and upgrade its appearance. Summer is a short season in Idaho. The Lodge and grounds are immaculate and flowers are in full bloom. There is an abundance of trails for hiking and biking. The Lodge is a short walk to downtown Ketchum for great shopping and dining. (Next time we plan to go fishing.) The locals are helpful. What you should expect, though, is a general laxity in employees; sometimes almost comical.

My husband and I were thrilled with our recent stay at Sun Valley Lodge. The Lodge has a marvelous history in itself; but we could not have been more pleased with the warm, welcoming atmosphere; the classy, European decor and a staff whose every move was designed to serve. We travel world-wide nearly six months a year, and I cannot remember having such fabulous service! The resort provided prompt, free shuttle service into Ketchum; and there is free bus service to the ski lifts. When was the last time you had gloved (yes, it was cold) doormen? The Lodge and its sister and nearly Inn and Nordic Center are simply First Class in every way! We hope to return again soon.

The iconic lodge has such a history of fabulousity that I tried to keep myself from setting the bat too high before we arrived but found it lived up to my every expectation. The Lodge was fantastic, old and full of history, charm, and retro-Hollywood glamour. The staff was helpful, and our suite 178 was clean and comfortable. We got a deal on the room, with free lift tickets included. The 100 + degree pools outside were unforgetable, and the hallways adorned with photographs of previous visiting celebrities really reinforced the feeling of being somewhere special. The lodge's Duchin Lounge was great for after-ski drinks and live entertainment, and although I don't Ice Skate, the Ice Rink behind the lodge was a great place to peoplw watch. Some people may find the clientle a little old and stogy, and there were a lot more kids around then I anticipated, but even jet-setting young-type wannabes will have a good time, and there's a lot more to do then just ski. We had a smoke with Hemingway at his grave in Ketchum - Papa would be proud. The Sun Valley Lodge was epic and worth every penny just to say that we had stayed there and become part of the legend. Especially for someone's first time to the area, there is nowhere else to stay but the Lodge.
