Only got to stay for a few nights to ski with a friend. Great skiing, transportation, location, views, amenities. Our room was huge, luxurious, beautiful, and comfortable, though it could have used a floor-to-ceiling cleaning. Luxurious amenities and hotel features, tons to do. The few places we ate had excellent food, but on-site service was quite lackluster, which was disappointing since we paid a lot of money to stay there, so we expected staff to kind of bow-and-scrape; instead, they rarely noticed or acknowledged us, except the housekeeping staff was really friendly.

Room tip: Just stay in the Lodge, where all the rooms have been redone.

This was my first visit to Sun Valley, although my husband who is a skier has been several times. The resort has a small very hospitable feel. The staff is professional and welcoming from the arrival pickup from the Hailey airport and throughout our stay. The rooms are updated and very nice with excellent housekeeping service. This would be a great family place with the lovely pools, ice-skating rink, bowling alley, the shopping village with many restaurants and shops, and walkways. The bus service to Ketchum and Hailey is often and very good. The in-lodge restaurant, Gretchen's has the best breakfasts ever! Such fresh and healthy food - my favorite was the egg white frittata with basil pesto, tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. The Florentine eggs Benedict with spinach, mushrooms and hollandaise served on b big tomato slice was wonderful, as was everything we had there. Our first dinner was at Gretchens - Idaho trout - very tasty also. The one thing we found lacking were hooks in the room foyer for wet ski clothes. Otherwise, it is a beautiful and relaxing lodge.

I recently returned from my first stay at the Sun Valley Lodge.
To provide context for my review, the types of properties I typically stay at include Omni, Marriott and small independent/boutique properties.
I stayed in a premier king room, which is the lowest room category, in room 305.
The resort offers a seamless experience--from arrival at the airport with the included airport transfers and throughout your whole stay. The feeling I got from this resort hotel was that of understated elegance; the decor is nice but not over the top opulent. The staff were all friendly, helpful and professional. Someone is always there to open the door for you and the elevator is always waiting, door open on the first floor, for you to step in and go to your floor. The hotel is only 4 stories high, so you may choose to just take the stairs instead, but I found it a nice touch for those times when I wanted the elevator upon my return, it was right there and ready. The lobby is comfortable and the first and second floor sun rooms are inviting with comfortable seating.

Room 305 is a relatively small room but well appointed with large closet and fair number of drawers and shelves to put items. A small wet bar area, with drawer style refrigerator was also included as well as a writing desk. The bathroom was very large with dual sinks, stall shower, large soaking tub and separate toilet area. A fun touch to the rooms is that the movie "Sun Valley Serenade" plays on a continuous loop on one of the television channels (66 I think it was).

The pool area was lovely and very relaxing. There is a heated round pool (heated to hot tub type temperatures) with padded lounge chairs on the pool deck. There is also a normal size hot tub and a fire pit. The pool area is connected to the fitness center, as well an indoor bar/lounge area where cocktail service is available (they will deliver outside to the pool too).

The lodge is about a 45 second walk to the bus circle where the buses to downtown Ketchum and the ski mountains, Baldy and Dollar, pick up. There is also a paved and plowed walking path about 1 mile or so into downtown Ketchum. For going downtown to dinner, they also told me you could ask bell services for a drop off downtown in one of the shuttles, just give them a bit of notice.

The Lodge was also very convenient to the other businesses in the Sun Valley village complex such as the Konditorei bakery and other shops. The ice skating rink is just out the back of the Lodge and in the basement of the Lodge is the bowling alley.

I would recommend this hotel to people who like places with a taste of history. The Lodge was fully renovated back in 2015, so while it is still considered a historic property it is by no means tired or in need of updates. If you like the idea of being part of history, go experience the United States first destination ski resort and have a stay at the Sun Valley Lodge and experience a little part of (ski) history.

Spent a week here in one of the condo units. Two bed two bath with fireplace and full kitchen. The facility, the amenities, the staff, the services all first rate. The town runs a bus every fifteen minutes into Ketchum or the mountain. Can't beat this place, highly recommended.

Beautifully redone - we were in a lovely suite with everything one would need! Beautiful outdoor heated pool and lots of cozy places to hang out and staff is very attentive!

Easy access to Ketchum and skiing and just gorgeously situated in mountains.
Lots of history here also to soak up. I feel lucky to be here and would highly recommend!
