The problem with shopping on-line for travel accommodations is that you can either assume things that are not there, or miss something which is omitted that would cause you concern. In the case of Elkhorn Village near Sun Valley Idaho, the initial assumption was that we were booking into some sort of a resort hotel, with various amenities, and approximation to other Sun Valley facilities.
We booked what we thought was a hotel room, and when we got to Sun Valley, we could not find the address that was listed for “Elkhorn Village”, and then were advised that “Elkhorn Village “ had ceased to exist some fifteen years ago. There was a condo complex in the area, but no resort….
We called the phone number of a Tamarack Lodge who said they were strictly the booking agent for Vacation Internationale, who owns condo units in a complex, and that we were booked in one of those.
We could not have a key before 4:00PM, or even find out the general location. There were a lot of “don’t do this” instructions when we finally got the paperwork…
After some rooting around we found the building housing our unit, numbers on the condos didn't match the assigned room, we trudged through a number of levels to get to the quite small 1 Bedroom unit…It was shopworn, but was adequately equipped for our four day stay. My complaints as follows:

• No Wi-Fi ….even McDonalds has Wi-Fi
• Most amenities were closed down. This is the end of the summer season, and just prior to the opening of ski season, so perhaps that goes without saying.
• Unit maintenance was scheduled during our stay, even though it didn’t happen, not knowing the seasons left us open to intrusion
• Parking around the complex has been problematical, to the extent that you have to pay $100 if you lose the parking pass. You are required to use your assigned spot in the heated garage ( a nice touch) but the markings on the parking stalls has long been rubbed off. There is also a $70 boot removal fee if you get in the wrong spot! Evidently the natives have had some problems with the temporary types.
• No elevators in the three story complex….There were a number of seniors (us included) huffing and puffing up and down stairs.
I think that the advertising put out by Vacation Internationale seeks to portray the facility as it would be in the “High” season. We probably didn’t read well enough between the lines….

Room Tip: Find out before making reservations where the available rooms are located.

Thank you for your review. Elkhorn is a timeshare resort in a neighborhood setting. Summer in Sun Valley is very active and tourist driven, the best part of the Fall season charm is the quiet atmosphere and the lack of crowds. This is when most guest want the peace of curling up with a book and relax while the leaves are changing outside. As for the maintenance at the time there were gas lines being worked on around the resort I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

We stayed at this property as a timeshare exchange. It had two bedrooms with a queen bed in each room. In addition there was a loft area with twin beds, so no one had to sleep on a sleeper sofa. The unit was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The unit was roomy and very clean. The kitchen was small, but the way it was arranged it presented no problem at all. We were very happy with this facility and would stay here again.

Pool and hot tub were off site.

The VI units are nice for a studio, relatively recently remodeled, and fairly roomy (almost 500 square feet). The photos available here are accurate. It is not, however, conducive to sitting on the deck and admiring the view. Our view was of the bike rack and entry door, as another reviewer has noted. Other views are of the road or other condos; if you are looking for a good view of the beautiful surrounding area and/or easy access from your unit to the outside, or a nice deck or patio, look elsewhere.

The bed was comfortable, the unit clean and up to date with the amenities you need. Perhaps the one and two bedroom units have nicer views/are better located. I can only say this place was ok, and that I would not rush to stay here again. Sun Valley is a beautiful area though, and the town of Ketchum is fun and close by.

We traded our 5-star timeshare for this place in Ketchum. DAE Live provided the exchange, stating that condo assignment would be done at check-in. After a 15 hour drive, we checked in at the Tamarack Lodge, a few minutes away.
There are many buildings in this complex; the depicted photos used are false for a timeshare exchange.
Our (studio) unit was on the ground floor next to the building’s entry door and bike racks, and the closest unit to indoor ski racks.. We immediately drove back to the Tamarack to request a unit change, but were denied, being told that our exchange company had requested this unit.
A call placed to our exchange company was a waste of time and only reiterated what we already knew. The Tamarack Resort desk clerk’s only concern was whether we wanted to keep the key or hand it in. We suspect that unit numbers are purposely not given so as to avoid issues such as this.
Window blinds in the unit had to stay closed because of people gawking, kids congregating, and lack of privacy. The unit was tiny, dark and oppressive. There was a Queen bed that could be accessed from one side only, a good-sized bathroom, a pullout couch, plus TV & DVD player. A small table and two chairs sufficed for our in-house chowdowns.
There was a little two-chair deck off the slider, positioned next to the
building's entry door and bike rack. Who would want to sit here just a few feet away from the entrypath and bike racks? Perhaps if you lived in a subway station you would find this thrilling.

This building is next to the roadway, where a free commuter bus runs every hour . Midweek linen exchange is not provided, and there is no security, so if you have a concern (i.e., barking dogs at night) you can call a voicemail number and leave a message. Even without linen exchange, we had plenty of stocked towels for the two of us.
There is a swimming pool, jacuzzi, tennis courts, golf course and a well-stocked market on the grounds. The restaurant was open for business only on Friday & Saturday evenings, so we never had the chance to go.
Ketchum however, is a great town and only a five minute drive from the condo. Ketchum has one extremely well-stocked independent grocer, and a few good restaurants. Would highly recommend the Ketchum Grill and Sawtooth Club, to name a few. Sometimes you can get prepaid discount gift cards for these restaurants. It's a great town for touring on a bicycle. There are lots of great wilderness hikes within an hour of Ketchum; also not too far to drive to some good-sized lakes for boating and fishing. Very pretty area.
This resort is walking distance to Dollar Mountain for beginner skiing, which
has 3 lifts. Most ski Bald Mountain (Baldy) which is a 10 minute drive from
the condo and has enough expert runs to keep you inspired.
There are plenty of other condos in the area. All in all, our condo at the Elkhorn Resort was an extremely disheartening experience and considering our HOA, maintenance and taxes we already pay to our home resort, this was by far the cheesiest place we’ve ever stayed and a very poor exchange. Would NOT recommend Elkhorn Resort.

Rented a "studio" through Sunterra/Diamond for 5 nights (march) ski season. Building 2 Room 33. The building is 3 stories high.

Check in is at the Tamarack lodge in town (Ketchum) - no problems very fast and very friendly. Rooms are automaticially assigned - so no changes.
A little hard to find as the condos are surrounded by ALOT of other condos - located in the Elkhorn Village.
Room 33 was on the 2nd floor (right next to the washing/drying room). Full kitchen with everything you need, very quiet fridge, dining table for 2, fireplace (push of a button!), 2 person couch (with a pullout - twin). Extra single chair, 2 inn tables, bedroom with a queen bed, closet and tables. Pretty good size bahroom - and plenty of towels, toilet paper, tissues to last the stay. There is 1 tv in the living room - mounted up HIGH on the wall - slight neck strain! About 27 inch with a DVD player.

Even though theroom was right next to the washer/dryer - we never heard them! Might have something to do with theprice! $1.75 to wash and dry :)

More like a 1 bedroom with a door/divider from the bedroom to the living room. Would recommend only 2 people staying here - perfect for 2, but would be cramped for more.
Rooms on the bottom floor have a little balcony (not on the 2nd floor though).

The condo was very clean upon arrival - no daily service but none needed. Good location - would suggest a rental car but you can always wait for the free "kart bus" service thats picks up right out front. If you prefer freedom - rent a car.

No services in "Elkhorn Village" there is a grocery store in town (Ketchum) and all the restaurants/shops are also in Ketchum. The drive is about 5 minutes.

Beautiful town/city! Weather was great - skiing was great! Dollar mountain is right down the street - but only 3 lifts and VERY small.. good for an hour or two - then you might get bored!

Would stay here again! Very quiet and relaxing!
