I would like to start by saying that the staff in the restaurant were amazingly helpful and genuinely concerned with our meals. However, they are not given the proper tools to fulfill a pleasant review.
A few years ago there was a management change, and with it came a sort of bizarre fast-food / sit-down-dining / cheap-as-can-be atmosphere that has forever changed the traditional small town mom-and-pop establishment that it once was.
You are seated, handed menus, but then asked to order at the counter - Wendy's style. Your meal is served on cheap Styrofoam plates, you get your own coffee from a 7-11 style dispenser in a styrofoam cup, the syrup comes in multiple disposable plastic cups, the butter and jam are in plastic peel-top containers, the bacon came in a styrofoam box, and there is no water to be found without asking. Our carbon footprint in one breakfast for 3 seemed equivalent to the DOW chemical plant for a week! Nothing was washed and re-used! The traditional booth seating has been replaced with open oak chairs and tables, the antique mounted trophy animals on the walls have been replaced with monolithic video games such as "Extreme Hunting" and multiple huge flat screen TV's running the Cartoon Network in full theater volume.
The food was just "okay", and given what the staff has to work with, I would guess that they do the best that they can.
We will not eat here again, and will not frequent any of the monopoly of the Mountain Village realm within Stanley again. There are better, more earth-friendly, customer-oriented businesses in Stanley that are all fighting for the same tourist dollar.

We have stayed at this hotel MANY times. We are snowmobilers and love the Stanley area. Mountain Village is about the only option. The rooms are outdated and in need of repairs, but we have never experienced an unfriendly staff member or missed anything from our room. We usually request one of the 2 bedroom suites that have microwave/fridge etc. The rooms are always clean and cozy, the beds are old but not horrible.

The restaurant on the other hand has been ruined! It is still a full service restaurant but you order cafeteria style and they serve meals on paper plates. We were told this was to save $ which is understandable. The bar is closed most of the time, for rent for special occasions.

My advise is don't expect a Sun Valley Lodge or 5 star hotel in a town of 100 people in the middle of the Sawtooth Mountains.

Room Tip: The Thompson Creek or Kelley Creek Suites are nice big rooms that sleep up to 10 people. For the pr...

The rooms are old and outdated. The TV's are old, big and bulky. The bathrooms are very outdated with holes in the floor and leaky faucets and the staff is not very friendly. The bar next door has a very comfortable atmosphere and the restaurant has very good food. On our last visit to the Sawtooth's, our experiance at the restaurant was the worst. We politely asked the waitress for a cup of melted butter. My wife uses melted butter as her dipping sauce for her steak. Simply put some butter in a dish and nuke it in the microwave. Not a difficult request and very easy to do. Well, I had to ask 5 times for some melted butter and the waitress chose to ignore us each time. On my sixth request, I was very P.O'ed. The waitress told me I didn't have to raise my voice and if we didn't like the service, that there was a McDonald's 30 miles down the road. As if we were not good enough to eat in their restaurant. We will never stay or eat at Mountain Village Resort ever again.

We took a trip from Oregon to Stanley, ID/Sawtooth Mts... and stayed 3 days and 2 nights at the Mountain Village Resort. Our room was a mountain/rustic decor, clean, and quiet, with a beautiful view of the Sawtooth Mountains, and parking right outside our door. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It is centrally located at a high elevation, to the other spots of interest we wanted to visit in the area (and there is a lot of beautiful things to see in that area!). Even though it was late Aug/Early Sept, it was very cold at night (expected with the high elevation), but the heater in the room was adequate to stay comfortable. It was a little higher priced than most of our accomodations on our trip for the same type of rooms, but higher prices are expected in resort areas in the mountains. My only complaint was not regarding the accomodations at all... but the restaurants in the town. There are only a few, and we didn't find any with great food (more like fast food/cafeteria type food), and they were not especially clean, so for most of our meals, we hopped in the car and drove several miles to other small towns to eat. But they do have a smaller grocery store, and a few shops nearby as well. Other than that, it was a great stay, and we would stay there again if we visited the area another time.

Room Tip: As there are stairs/wooden walkways to the second level of rooms, foot traffic noise is apparent on...

I don't know if it was because we had a dog and they put us in their worst room, but if you stay at Mountain Village Resort, request not to stay in room 112. I don't know if management is aware of it, but room 112 has a hole in the bathroom floor with water leaking out, and the bathtub calk is allowing what appeared to be mud seaping through to the floor. And in the morning, we were awakened to what soundled like elephants upstairs as the floor boarded creaked worse than my grandma's knees. I know it's an old building, but come on. I would have requsted another room, but i didn't want to push it with having a dog. It would be nice if someone would build a nice hotel in Stanley, even a Comfort Inn would be paradise in that beautiful place.

I have stayed here for the last 2 consecutive years and will not hesitate to rebook again next year. Even though the Hotel sits on the main highway the rooms are set back far enough to cancel out traffic noise. If you have an upstairs room you will enjoy a beautiful view over the Sawtooth Mountains and Stanley River. A hot tub is a short walk away. The rooms themselves are large with an adequate bathroom and vanity outside the bathroom in a small alcove. Two large queen size beds in each room seems to be the norm. An excellent Bar and Restaurant is next door. Staff are very friendly and will even pick you up from the airport if you fly in by charter plane. Because the Hotel is in town a car is needed if you are planning to hike around some of the lakes in the area.

Room Tip: My room was booked through ROW adventures when I booked the rafting trip.

We stayed here for one night the first weekend in July before a camping trip. The rooms were clean, but outdated. It appears the property is for sale, which means they won't be upgrading anything until it sells. Overall we were pleased and we enjoyed walking down to the hot springs for a quick soak. It was not fancy, but average, clean and comfortable. We would stay here again.

One word of advice, do NOT eat at the restaurant next door. It is attached to the outdoors store. The food was gross and the "waitress" demanded a tip upfront when we ordered out food at the counter. She literally circled the part of the receipt where you write a tip in and said very loudly, "TIP GOES HERE". Rude!
