Had a wonderful Easter visit at the Best Western Edgewater. Beautiful lakefront park adjacent to the property. The restaurant is excellent with beautiful views. Had a great King Suite with a fireplace overlooking the lake. Fantastic!

Room Tip: Highly recommend the King Suite with the Fireplace

We've been to Sandpoint many times and never can get into this hotel. We finally did. It's got a great location because you get the water on one side and downtown is 5 minutes away.

Room Tip: They're all lakeview rooms!!

In the summer this would be an amazing spot. But even in early spring, it was very pleasant. The staff were helpful & courteous, the hotel was a bit tricky to get to when coming from the north, parking is a bit tight for bigger vehicles, restaurant attached has really great food. Overall an enjoyable stay. The halls did smell a bit musty - think that's due to the swimming pool, but nothing over whelming. Rooms were pleasant and clean. Despite the frequency of all the trains that go thru Sandpoint, I only heard one and that was in the morning when I was standing outside and it rumbled by (about 20 feet from the parking lot). So the hotel is well insulated!

We spent two nights at this hotel and did not encounter the problems voiced by others. The staff was freindly and helpful. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. We did hear a faint sound of trains but it was not unpleasant. We did not feel the vibration that others talk about. The restaurant food was very good, fairly priced and well presented. We enjoyed ourselves so much we are coming back again this month.

Our family of 4 and two other families of 4 & 5 stayed for 5 days in August. The trouble started on the first night. When my brother and sister-in-law went to bed (they checked in late) they noticed that the beds in thier rooms had no sheet. On outward appearance the beds looked made. When the front desk was contacted they indicated that it would be about a 30 min wait. When the situation was brought up with manager in the morning, he was not helpful at all. In fact he was rude and disrespectful. Of the 7 children in our group that used the pool/hot tub, all but two broke out with a rash. One one occasion the pool guy was adding chemicals to the hottub when some of the kids were in it. Again the manager was not interested in hearing our concerns. I will nevr stay at this hotel again!!!

The rooms are nicely rehabbed. Beds very comfortable. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The trains go by pretty frequently and yes they are loud, they will even shake the bed. The really bad thing is that the heater has to be blowing to heat up the room, if you don't turn the blower off it won't shut off once the room is a certain temperature, you will wake at 1 am and the room will be 80 degrees. If you leave it on for a few hours and shut it off, it is pretty cold in the morning. Very difficult to regulate the heat in the room. Very nice views of the harbor. The restaurant connected to the hotel is beautiful, very comfortable and the food is really good.

We stayed at the Edgewater for 4 week nights in a king, ground level room.

Pros: The front desk, cleaning and maintenance staff were all very friendly, helpful, and responsive. The hotel is on beautiful Lake Pond Orielle and all rooms have water views. It is adjacent to a city park with a nice, swimable beach, play ground and two tennis courts, and is a short walk to shops and restaurants. There is also a small marina adjacent to the hotel. Rooms have recently been renovated and the bed was very comfortable. Not affiliated with the hotel but onsite is a restaurant with good food and service.

Cons: The location is busy and very noisy. The train tracks run parallel to the back side of the hotel and at times, the trains ran every 15 minutes; other times about every 30 minutes. Construction is underway on an elevated bypass for the major north/south highway and when complete, it will also run parallel to the backside of the hotel, next to the train tracks. The property is old and while the rooms have been renovated, not everything has been replaced. Shorty after we checked in, our air conditioning unit began clanking so loud, we couldn't hear each other so they replaced it. Both units were filthy. On day two, the replacement air conditioning unit quit working and its replacement was equally filthy. The good news is that the units were loud enough to drown out the trains throughout the night and noise from the room above us. Our patio was small, dirty and the plastic chairs were cracked and uncomfortable.

Sandpoint is absolutely beautiful and we plan to go back for a week next s\time but will rent a lakeside condo in a quieter location. The Edgwater is currently the only lakeside hotel in the downtown area. If you want to be downtown, its acceptable for a night or two but far from terrific and I wouldn't recommend it for a longer vacation.
