The Shady Nook of Salmon, ID was by far ,if not, the most outstanding dining experience we have come across while traveling the West Coast. We recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone that is traveling through that beautiful city. The Shady Nook is a must for anyone that appreciates excellent food. The owners and staff are a pleasure to be around :-) If you don't go, you'll wish you had!

C-grade Decor and meals. We sat in what looked like a old meeting room, dark, with wood paneling and various hunting trophies mounted on walls and giant standing brown bear in the corner. Chairs were stacked against the walls. I suspect the chef has skills, but may have less than A-quality product to work with. My salmon steak (surprisingly from Oregon, not local) dinner was cooked to perfection, and side of mashed potatoes were nicely flavored. However, my husband's rib eye steak, despite good flavor, was "chewy" and not tender at all. Our entire party of four was disappointed, but would give it a second try and different meals next time. On the plus-side, the service was quite good.

I try to eat here every time I visit Salmon. Every time it's been a great meal with good service. It is a bit on the spendy side though.

We ate here passing through town for a night, and had a good time. We sat in the bar, which is your standard bar setting. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was your standard steakhouse fare. Everything we had was tasty, the steaks are fantastic, and the smoked trout is a must.

I would say that everything is about 25% more expensive than it should be. You are in a resort type town so it's not unreasonable to expect to pay slightly higher than average prices. However there are a couple of more affordable, and almost as tasty restaurants close by. The Junkyard Bistro and the Brewery were both comparable in food quality, and substantially more affordable. Especially sitting in the bar area, I'm not a big fan of spending $25 a plate.

If you don't mind spending the money, this place is great, but if you're on a budget, there are better value options in Salmon.
