You'll start the museum with a tour of about an hour from Don Aslett himself, the founder of the gigantic cleaning company Varsity. The museum actually is a collection of all the cleaning items Don gathered in his life and, as he told us, he is putting a lot of his fortune in it.
The museum moved to this new building not too long ago, and Don showed us his plans with all the other floors. The museum now only uses the ground floor and the basement. We were really surprised by all the vacuum cleaners, washing machines, etc. Furthermore Don really explains everything in a funny and amimated way. It seemed like he had to hold back not to tell too much, because every cleaning tool has it's own story. And don't think this is a "look and walk by" only museum. You can touch a lot of items and there are several things to do.
This museum really is one in it's kind and gives you a better view on cleaning and everything there is to it. You'll leave with (even bigger) respect for all the janitors and other cleaning workers. We sincerely hope Don will realize his dream and that this museum becomes a huge succes, bringing a lot of visitors to town.

Don Aslett the creator of the museum is a real character. He was about to show us Kiwis about the museum when a bunch of kids showed up. His eyes lit up and he wowed us with the most amazing tour whilst entertaining the children and us adults. The kids loved it . Don understands kids and cleaning. The museum is full of old cleaning stuff in all forms and used in creative ways. Don't miss the chance to visit this gem.

I took a 7 year old and a 5 year old to the Museum of Clean. They loved it. The giant metal sphere in the entrance had them laughing the minute they walked in. More hands on exhibit than I've seen in many museums. They washed a window, hung up clothes with wooden clothes pins, pumped turn of the century vacumn cleaners and much more. It's also very entertaining for adults, from the unusual vacumn cleaners, rare artifacts, and the histories of cleaning equipment. The guided portion of the tour was a bit too long for little children, but when we left they asked if they could go back again. I will certainly be returning to this fun, educational museum. Thank you, Don Aslett!
