Watch the flora and fauna as you go... and you can walk over the bridge from Mt Hawthorn over the freeway to get there. Good timeout from the city life...

As a Perth native you would be easily forgiven for whipping pass Lake Monger on the freeway and wondering what it was and why. But if you lived near Leederville, you'd be enjoying this urban nature reserve, glad that most whip pass it on the freeway and never stopping.

I have a great deal of love for Lake Monger which is really a giant puddle that ducks and swans flock to and live on. After my first child was born, I would go there almost every day as my "Mrs" walked off her baby fat and I tried to do the same. Mind you my labrador dog stopped to water every tree so it wasn't much of a work out.

I loved the neighbourhood feel as old and young did their circuits at difference paces. I didn't really like the Tour de France lycra set flying past on their bikes at outrageous speeds, but I always felt there was enough room for everyone, and all hobbies. No one was really threatened.

You think about Lake Monger being a lake, but the surrounding parkland is gorgeous. I have since had picnics in the park with dogs and kids running rampant in the open space and I recommend this as a great evening meeting place. Bring a blanket, bring your food and wine, and above all else, let your families make an special event out of it.

A great place to bring your family. Feed the swans, walk around the lake or just play on the swings.

Lake Monger is a luck for those who live nearby. It is very alive with trkkers. bikers or birdwatchers bet also for artists as the lke change colour and atmosphere from the morning to night time. There are enough car parking, basic toilets and sometimes ice cream stall. Always glance for pelicans but swans, ducks and cockatoos make already a good frame.
