We were looking forward to escaping the crowds and craziness of Seattle by renting a cabin on beautiful Priest Lake. We had images of peaceful rustic cabins overlooking crystal clear waters surrounded by a pristine forest.
There are cabins at this resort that fit that description...but not ours. The reality that we experienced was substantially different.
Our cabin (Cabin 2) overlooked the main parking lot and the tavern of the resort, as well as the backside of the resort kitchen. We had been told that a creek provided a buffer between the cabin and the parking lot. It didn't.
The parking lot was a constant source of activity with not only guests coming and going, but delivery vehicles, construction equipment, and the periodic visit to the dumpsters by the kitchen staff with the accompanying loud crash of the dumpster lid.
Starting on the third day of our visit, workers began resurfacing the dirt parking lot. This involved trucks going back and forth making that annoying beeping sound, dumping dirt for a skiploader to spread all around. This went on all day long for 2 days right outside our door. The resort said that it was the county doing the work and that they had tried to get them to reschedule it, but there was nothing they could do about it. The problem with that explanation is that they knew about this work in advance of us booking our trip, yet they gave us no warning of the disturbance when we booked our cabin, nor offered us any compensation for the annoyance.
These problems were bad, but they were overshadowed by the tavern problem.
On 4 of the 7 nights of our stay, there was live music at the tavern. These weren't mild acoustical duos playing in a corner of the bar, but local bands playing loud, thumping, covers of 80's rock. The concerts went on until close to midnight, with customers spilling out into the parking lot after that. Even with our windows closed, we could not get to sleep.
It was ridiculous.
We've always done our homework before booking any vacation and we've usually had great experiences. While Priest Lake and the surrounding area is stunning, this place spoiled our vacation. They charged us very high-end prices, but provided us with a discount roadside motel experience.
