What an amazing evening. sometimes a meal out is about the quality and preparation of the food. Sometimes its about the personableness of the service. Sometimes its about the atmosphere of the room. At the Portneuf grill at the Riverside Inn in Lava Hot Springs Idaho, all of these came together to produce a wonderful night. From the moment you arrive you feel like family. this isn't a stylish, snobbish establishment, Rather it feels like a warm, comfortable Idaho getaway. Everyone feels welcomed and important at the Riverside.
And the food...wow. From the thick cut T-bones (my choice) to the flavorful Salmon (my wives) it is all simply amazing.
If you come, leave room for the dessert. Recent addition to the Riverside, Julie, a Cordon Bleu trained pastry chef makes it worth keeping room for a treat.
In the Middle of no where Idaho, there is a missing jewel...The Portneuf Grill at the Riverside Inn. Get a room and make it a wonderful getaway.

Great food, cold dining room. It was a delicious prime rib dinner but I found it hard to enjoy with the room so cold. I realize it was single digits outside but maybe consider more heaters.

Visited the Riverside Restaurant and Lounge during our stay in Lava Hot Springs. We ended up eating inside due to "several" bees in the area outside by the water. The food was great. We both had the taco special. In addition my wife had the coconut prawns which she said were great and I had a scrumptious cup of mushroom soup. I should have had a bowl! It was excellent.

We didn't stay at the inn but it took a quick tour. It appeared dated but very comfortable. Very appropriate for the area!

I stayed here during a trip to Salt Lake.....the Restaurant and Lounge are in the basement. And the seating is very iffy....I wouldn't eat in the restaurant area, I opted for the bar...it is decorated with new, wanna-look-old beer signs, which is tacky at best....this is supposed to be a classy place, but the decor looks straight out of Shakey's Pizza.....The menu was varied, and also very overpriced, and the service was ho-hum. NOT a good experience for this writer.

Didn't expect to eat this well in such a small town. The rest of the town appears to cater to the inner tube crowd, with cheap food and alcohol. The new restuarant manager is trying different things and I liked what I tasted. It still tends to meat and potatoes, but this is rural Idaho - what do you expect? The chef has some variations, and the staff attention was great.

Sit outside along the alley and listen to the squeels of the tubers for entertainment while you eat.
