Stanley, Idaho is a small town (pop 500, give or take a few!) and they literally roll up the sidewalks at night, but it's a beautiful little town tucked away in the foothills of the Sawtooth Mts. It can get MIGHTY COLD there, once while staying at the Creekside Lodge in Stanley upon arrival, at around 2 P.M. it was 72 degrees. At 10 P.M. it was 17 degrees! The Sawtooth Mt. range is beautiful...rugged, scenic...well worth the 120-mile trip north from Boise. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys beautiful scenery but be warned, in the winter the State will close Hiway 21 N. from Boise due to snow, so go in the Spring or Fall seasons.

Beautiful majestic mountains. Great scenic beauty. So much to see. Make sure you have your camera ready as the colours of these mountains are gorgeous.

Enjoyed the boat ride across Redfish Lake ($10 pp one-way, $16 pp round trip) and a fabulously beautiful hike to the Bench Lakes and back along the lake to the trail head (7 miles or so). The vistas of the Sawtooths from the trail are astounding!

There are hundreds of places to hike, camp, four-wheel, fish, ride bikes or horses...the Sawtooth Headquarters is right off the highway between Ketchum/Sun Valley & Galena Summit & offers free hiking maps & info. Harriman Trail is a great place to ride bikes!

The SNRA covers a huge area; stop at the ranger station 8 miles north of Ketchum on hwy 75. The Sawtooth wilderness has some of the best day hiking and backpacking in the country.
