This lodge is awesome!! Deanna was extremely hospitable. Room was cozy & I felt like I was "at home" for 5 nights. Beautiful drive to west yellowstone every day & close to Mesa falls. I will definitely stay here again if I go back.

My Wife and I stayed at 4 Yellowstone area locations in 10 days for our 22nd Anniversary (Sept. 15-25,09) This Lodge looks newer and more Romantic than a lot of the small inns & Lodges around West entrance and in a nice location. Island Park is convenient to enjoy Herriman State park Horseback riding, Targahee Ntnl Forest, several Trout fishing rivers, and 28 miles to west Yellowstone entrance. Be sure to watch IMAX film on Yellowstone b4 going in, $4 Matinee for 1st two A.M. shows & $6 for other shows. Buy gifts inside Yellowstone because price is same but 100% of proceeds goes to the park when bought inside. Be sure to pick up Y.Stone park paper at area stores to see times of Ranger guided tours & talks, very good. If Horseback riding is your thing, ride 2 miles south on hwy 20 to Herriman State Park. www.dryridge.com 1/2 day was $55 and trails are fantastic! Forest, streams, mountains, & lush valley with Elk viewing. Diamond P is closer to w.Yellowstone but a little more money and 45 min. flat ride to get to mountain scenery. Nice people too, but Herriman State Park is best experience for the buck. Just south of the park off hwy 20 is a scenic route thru mountains called Mesa Falls scenic byway, many lookout photo opps. worth the trip! If Trout fishing is your thing, there is a historical inn called Macs on hwy 20 about 5 miles north of Anglers Lodge, where people rented hotel syle rooms & small cabins right on the river. I went in to look, rooms started about $70 a nt. cabins $100, but you could walk out of your door and see the trout swimming in the river! Macs is a little older looking and lower priced than Anglers but better for family on a budget. You can keep the trout you catch, just buy a license 1st kids dont have to. The Anglers Lodge fishing is catch & release. Lodge is Beautiful but a little pricey...our anniversary meal we had there at the restaurant was good and very romantic by the river. We also visited Teton Ntnl Park as $25 Yellowstone Park admission is good for 7 days at both. Hotels in Driggs are good value around $70 but tough going over the mountains to Jackson Hole...The hotels in Jackson Hole are too pricey $130+ for rooms you get in West Y.S. for 1/2 the price. In Alpine, WY just about 40 miles south of J.H., Flying Saddle Resort is about $72 a nt. AAA and have nice rooms and ranch style atmosphere, worth the drive if going back a 2nd day to Teton Ntnl Park or heading out the next morning after a long day in the park. In Jackson Hole there is a Dollar store which has all the yellowstone suveneirs for $1 each rather than $4 each in the parks. Stock up for the kids to give as gifts at school etc.

The room we got had two queen beds, Cable TV, Wireless Internet (very slow), a large bathroom with tub/shower, Refrigerator and a porch overlooking the river. Cost was $151 per night including taxes. A little high, but acceptable for the Labor Day weekend.

The Lodge lobby is beautiful, with a fireplace and many couches with large picture windows overlooking the river and many Moose, Elk, and Deer heads mounted on the walls plus other assorted mounted animals and fish. A grand piano graced the lounge area, but no musician was in attendance.

The restaurant was again rustic with mounted animals and large table settings. A huge TV was playing sports events loudly during dinner. The food was excellent, but slightly pricey, about $10+ per person exclusive of drinks. Service was excellent and very friendly.

The lodge gives a family atmosphere with very nice people running it.

Approximately 340 miles from the West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park on US Hwy 20.

I felt the overall stay was mediocre at best.. The rooms were okay, the hot tub was weird and only filled a 1/3 of capacity and the area around it seemed dirty. The restaurant was fair and there were houseflys flying around.

We stayed here between 2 days of hiking in Yellowstone, it's a bit out of the way from the west entrance, but it's a better value than staying inside the park. The room was cute and comfortable and the river is literally right out the back door.

We stayed here because of the reviews from you wonderful folks for our first trip to Yellowstone; thanks for letting us know.It is a good 30 minute drive to the West gate but we decided it was a good place even though not inside the park nor West Yellowstone, which is very ugly and not somewhere you would enjoy being.

Angler's Lodge is right on the river, and has a few spots to get a paper and such in a few shops.Once we were at Old Faithful Inn we realized Angler's Lodge was great.OFI was really like Disneyland crowds in the wilderness, just awful.

It is not a large Marriott type place but appropriate for being way up in the vast wilderness. No white duvet covers but way up there in Idaho, that is not the way it is.Most rooms have a full river view with a walkway and plastic chairs to view the lovely river outside. It was a good base for Yellowstone.

It was nice that internet service was included (it gets weak in the rooms further from the office) and worked well. The refridgerator was very nice to have for drinks but took a while to get cool.Beds were tolerable. This is Idaho.

It was very nice to have a glass of wine in the lobby under the dear antlers but I would recommend eating dinner at the Trout Hunter several buildings south.Great crowd and atmosphere as well as modern, tasty upscale food.

If you book be sure to mention to Deanna or Dee Dee or Chelsea that you do not want room ten if you are non smokers. That is a smoking room and we almost got stuck with it even though we made a non smoking reservation six months in advance.Chelsea was fantastic about moving us into a non smoking room.

I would also recommend driving an hour south to Rexburg ID to Bear World. We only saw bison in Yellowstone and Bear World, even though I have read some very negative reviews here, was a true highlight for us.You drive your car through a very natural type terrain and clean, uncaged bear and elk and wolves happily meander around. The staff was very sharp and seemed to truly care about the animals born at the park.I asked numerous questions and was very satisfied with the answers. They were extremely careful of allowing visitors to get too near the animals and were very respectul of them.

The water pressure at AL is weak, if that is important to you.Beware the mosquitos if the weather gets above sixty, and also stay away from Mack's Inn for any reason. The restaurant is terribly tacky and the staff yell at one another. The woman, Jamie, at the rental desk for the water craft, is very ill tempered.Yikes, trust me; just not a decent business person.I hope this helps anyone going to Island Park.

Loved the angler's lodge! Full of rustic charm, really friendly staff (they introduced themselves to us at dinner which was lovely), beautiful views and huuuuge room. Amazing 'bear' bed and balcony. Only bad thing was the mozzies (although to be fair it meant that the fishing was good!) Fantastic local beer and wholesome family-friendly food. Don't have to be an agler to stay here - we are a couple in our twenties/thirties and it was great for us. Loved visiting Yellowstone Park and the area, even saw a bear!

  • Liked — location - picturesque, near Yellowstone park, hotel's character
  • Disliked — mozzies, bed sheets
