Wow..Thank you for the great review! It was fun to read how Boondocks appears from the "other side" of the counter! The reason it is so strange is at first it was only the two of us (Pat and Nancy) in the kitchen and we would cook and prep food until someone (usually a local) came in ... they would just holler out an order to us in the back and then go take a seat. This was the system which worked after we finished building and decorating the structure ourselves. Since we are off the beaten track it was a local hang out and people knew Pat was frequently alone in there...times have changed and we probably will go to "full service" next summer! We just had our 5th Boondocks Birthday! Thanks again for taking the time to write such a wonderful, entertaining review...it was a treat to read and folks like you are what makes it all worthwhile! Glad you found us, the Doyle family

I knew I wanted to eat here after all the reviews of this out of the way place. Just our type of hang out. Boondocks is one of those places that cooks real food right. The chef and owner has many years of experience in the kitchen, and it shows. The staff is mostly young college students who are polite and attentive. The restaurant itself takes some negotiating when you first visit. It is located in a cabin and has about 10 tables. There are picknick tables to sit outside, unfortunately most of those have smokers at them. There are wait staff but they do not take your order. You enter the door and take a menu from a basket to your left, then find a seat. When you are ready to order you go back to the counter, place your order and drop off your menu in the basket. We would usually walk in grab a menu and order our drink, then sit down to figure out what to eat. They also have blackboard specials. The staff will bring your food when it's ready. Usually you had to go back up to order another drink but sometimes when they are walking by you can ask and they will get it for you. When you are finished you go up and pay..CASH only. There is a tip jar at the counter for the servers. After the first night we were there we were determined to eat there as often as we could. We were staying on the north end of Henry's lake. It was about a 15 min. ride, but really easy to find. Off of rte. 20 down to Yale-Kilgor Rd. Then about 4 miles on the right. Now for the food. This is hands down the best ribeye I have had out. Hand cut, and large 20oz. for $22 cooked to perfection with a rub or spice flavor I couldn't quite place, but delicious. The calzone was flaky and stuffed full, the trout fish portion was a huge slab, the fried chicken and gravy was moist and unexpected, crispy yet barely breaded with a creamy white gravy, the spaghetti and sausage was our least favorite, good but not great. The fish and chips were fresh and crispy with handcut steak fries $10. The fish portions were on the small side but wild caught halibut and english battered to perfection. The salads that came with the meals were superb with a variety of little tidbits not normally found in a house salad, all dressings are made in house. The twice baked potatoes needed no seasoning and were crispy on top and tender in the middle. The rolls are handmade crisp and fluffy. The only dessert we tried was the cheescake with huckleberry topping. So light, yet dense. Best cheesecake ever! How could I forget the awesome cinnamon rolls, HUGE and flavorful, we got these to go for breakfast the next morning. They have a few wines and local beers as well as great $3.50 margaritas.
They are closed on Mon./Tues. yet is the only place open at 9am-11pm in the area. If you are anywhere near Island Park this is THE place to eat.

Amazing food in a casual friendly atmosphere makes Boondocks our new favorite. The ribs were tender and sweet; the trout almondine, juicy and flavorful. Even the sides, twice baked potato with a hint of garlic and fresh sauteed vegetables, were incredible. But save room for dessert because the brownie ala mode was perfection and we've NEVER had better cheesecake topped with a sweet huckleberry sauce. And be sure to try the Grand Teton Brewing Company sodas. They're absolutely bursting with flavor. One word of caution though: bring cash. The nearest ATM is 4 miles away!
