Plan to take your time driving to Idaho City and take in the beautiful, breathtaking scenery. Remember to pull over, roll down your car window and smell the lovely fragrance along the way. Idaho City is rustic and full of nostalgia and even though it was drizzling, you could feel yourself pulled back in time..........the cemetery was blocked with road construction and the museum was closed but we weren't disappointed. The air was crisp and fall was certainly in the air. What a unique way to escape from the frantic pace of the city. Lunch was at Trudy's Kitchen and the waitress was very efficient and worked hard to please us. Hamburgers were delicious, especially the patty melt on rye. The huckleberry cheese cake was a favorite, in addition to french dip beef sandwich. The Au ju was freshly made, and the beef was tender/full of flavor. A wonderful step back in time for a rainy day! We hope to return in the high season.

Idaho City is a small mountain community about 35 miles northeast of Boise very scenic drive all year round. All the fun you can have in mountains with rivers, lake, marina, ATV, bicycling, motorcycling, hiking, backpacking, fishing in lake or rivers, horseback riding. There is just so much to driving up and in and around Idaho City. The main street in Idaho City has small cafe's, Ice cream parlor, and much more all with a mining town/ western town. And of course Highway 21 leads to all kinds of places including Stanley Idaho, Garden Valley. Back to the Cafe they are very friendly good food that feels you up, but is small inside and very little seating out. But with the drive or camping it is a cafe you need to try you just might enjoy the whole experience

I'm heading back there this weekend for my 5th trip to Idaho City. Trudy and staff provide high quality food and friendly service. The desserts are excellent, but so is everything else: standard breakfast fare, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, prime rib specials, etc. The food is by far the best in Idaho City. The rooms for rent are also the most modern ones in the town, and at a fair price.
