“Charming * Olde World * Palace Style”
Reviewed August 17, 2014 via mobile

We stayed for five days this hotel has a quaint palace type charm. Yes, it is a little worn in places but has that shabby chic feel and a certain olde world glamour.

Breakfast was plentiful with many choices and service was attentive. Reception staff were efficient and friendly offering helpful advise.

We found the hotel ideally placed and thoroughly loved our little boat trip over to st marks each morning to start our day. Restaurants around were pretty good though the open air one exactly opposite is not worth it.

The gelato bar across from the entrance is to die for - I will say no more...

Room service was fine and the bed was huge and comfy. Well worth a stay in a short break and we would stay at this hotel again

It was easy to find we caught the boat from the airport and literally got off at the dock and walked up the main road. It is a three minute walk and you cannot miss it on your right.

Stayed in a triple room in July. Definitely very impressive facade and rooms, great breakfast, good location, only a couple of minutes walk from Lido water taxi station and only 10/15 mins from central Venice water bus stations on the boat.
Nice terrace area for drinks on warm summer evenings.
Only a couple of points for the hotel to consider to improve things:
There was no real useable public lounge area, there was a room between breakfast and reception which seemed out of use (could be a great lounge)
The terrace are could maybe use some medium / large plants and/or classy parasols to break up the space a bit?
In the same trip we spent 3 days in hotel Al Vagon in central Venice. The Hungaria offered larger room, better facilities and included breakfast for not much more in cost.
Would definitely stay here again.

My friend and I travelled to Venice for a short break during a European vacation we were taking during 2012. The service was excellent and the use of the on site spa was absolutely brilliant. The outdoor terrace and entertainment was very nice and we consumed more than one bottle of wine out there. It is in the heart of wonderful local cuisine and down the road from a nice beach. It is a wonderful way to explore Venice and a perfect way to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the main islands.

The first thing that pops to mind is the Grand
Budapest Hotel. It's been said elsewhere in reviews but it's so true. It's a little triply how surreal the outside looks. Beautifully taken care of. It's also an old property, and the rooms are perfectly clean and nice, but the furniture is antique. And that's what they're going for. Expect that when you go in. It's a nice spot, there is a nice patio where you can get drinks and chill, and the island of Lido is a serious highlight being so far away from the bajillion tourists on Venice island. But, it's not the most adorned hotel on the inside despite the exterior sexiness of the buildings structure. The other key to remember is that getting to lido will, at the very least, involve a 7€per person fee and a 45min maximum trip each way to the main island. So, you need to estimate *at least a 14€ per person added charge per day to get back and forth to the island. Trade that in for a way less busy location (Lido) that has a lot of added charm, a clean room that may be way cheaper than the main island, and a free breakfast, and you've got a good trade off in my opinion, but it's something to keep in mind...

We stayed here 2 nights, and liked that it was on the Lido island, away from the hustle of Venice proper. Water taxis are convenient, but our tour guide had private boats for our group. The hotel staff were nice. Breakfast buffet was good with the usual choices. Dinner was just okay. The dining room was lovely, but our wait staff were a bit slow. Although there have been reviews of slow wi-fi, I didn't find it so. The Lido is a nice, safe place to walk around in, and there is a market (Billa--unsure of exact name) where groceries, clothing and accessories can be bought. Gelati shops abound. We didn't get much of a view from our room, but the facade of the hotel is a view in itself.

The exterior is fantastic and makes you proud to live there. Very friendly staff. Good cleaning. Good breakfast. Good lido beach service. Very good blackout arrangements for windows. Very good air condition. Perfect location for a family. Really close to boats, private beach, public beach. Not noisy. I would chose the same hotel again.

My friend and I stayed here during Architectural Biennale. It was a great choice to stay away from the central, and Lido is a quieter and family-friendlier area of Venice. There are pros and cons for staying in this hotel.

<Location>
The hotel is an easy reach from the public boat shuttle stop. From the airport we took the direct boat to Lido for 15EUR and it took about an hour. The hotel is on the main road, surrounded by many restaurants, shops and supermarkets that are opened until late at night. There are a lot of nice and local Gelato stores!! We were in the old city before the fireworks started, so there was no public boat service directly from Venice center to Lido at night. The hotel did not notify the guests about this irregular service during the fireworks. We had to somehow figure out how to transfer boats en route, and it took us almost 2 hours to get back to the hotel. We were exhausted and did not even bother to watch the fireworks from the beach.

<Room>
We requested a room away from the main street, facing the residential area. It was very quiet. The room 416 was on the top floor at the corner right below the roof, so it was spacious. The walls are thin, so you can hear the hair dryer from the neighbouring rooms like vacuum cleaner. The AC was perfect and we slept really well on the hard bed.

<Reception>
The receptionists are ready to help you and fight back your complaints at the same time. When we complained about the slow WiFi connection, they said it was due to rush hour. WiFi costs 5EUR per day, and 20 min. is free, although this 20 min is gone while trying to log onto the slow connection. This caused us a great problem, since we could not do web check-in for our return flight. If you stay at this hotel, you should not rely on searching restaurants and museum opening hours on Internet, because you will never get the connection. BRING your printouts or guidebooks.

<BREAKFAST BUFFET>
Breakfast on the first day was another uncomfortable event during our stay. One of the staff at the buffet unconsciously made a comment to my friend that hurt her feelings during the entire trip. This ruined our holiday mood completely. Otherwise, the selection of the buffet food was very good. You have to pay extra for Italian coffee, which is a joke for the price we payed for the room. There is only Cafe Americano, drip coffee available.

<Interior>
The classic interior appeals for older guests, at the same time the new addition such as Asian Spa and Terrace Bar appeal to the younger generation.

Overall, I would love to stay in Lido again in the future, but I would not stay in this hotel any more. Within the same price range, there must be a lot of other hotels in Lido that offer better services and quality.

Room Tip: Many wrote that the rooms on the top floor is hot, but it was not hot. The A/C works fine. Room 416...
