“Poor initial experience was overturned”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2014 via mobile

We arrived at the hotel after an arduous journey and in the midst of a storm to find our room was overbooked. We had no phone call/email prior to arriving at the reception.

We were put in a taxi to stay in a nearby hotel for our first night of a 3 night stay. Disappointed, I wrote an email to complain. We arrived back at the hotel on the second night of a 3 night stay to find we had been upgraded and there was a bottle of prosecco waiting for us. The breakfast was excellent, the spa enjoyable and the location is excellent for the city and surrounding islands.

I'm disappointed that I had to complain to be offered compensation, but the stay was enjoyable overall

The hotel is very pretty on the outside and inside. The restaurant and bar are very nice. There was a problem with the wifi reception. There are many restaurants within walking distance as well as a large grocery store and pharmacy. The hotel is from the 1920s and is well kept. The boat dock is only a block away to go to Venice. There is a very nice beach a few blocks from the hotel.

We stayed at this hotel in Venice Lido as part of a rail excursion holiday of northern Italy whereas previously we stayed on the main island in a hotel near St. Mark's Square overlooking the Grand Canal Basin.
Having stayed in these two locations, I would recommend staying on the Lido as it is only a ten minute vaporetto ride (No. 1) to St. Mark's Square and is much quieter than Venice itself.
There are many places to eat on the Lido which, whilst they would lack the ambiance of those on the Venice, are cheaper and less crowded. It is also more relaxing to get away from the throngs around the popular spots in Venice.
The hotel room we stayed in was large and overlooked the front terrace bar area but we found the firmness of the bed mattress and pillows rather to firm for our older bodies. Apparently, softer pillows are available from reception on request. The bathroom had recently been refurbished using a rather bright green and white tiling colour scheme which gave it a slightly clinical feel. The shower was not easy to use as the high water pressure made the shower hose writhe like an agitated snake as there was no place to secure it on the wall that I could see so the water went everywhere but on me unless I held it firmly. A grill on the floor ensured the water drained away so no problem.
The restaurant and breakfast room were pleasant as was the terrace bar. The staff are helpful and polite.
I cannot comment on the value for money as it part of an inclusive tour.
I believe the hotel was featured in a film (Hotel 2010) but not having seen it that I recollect so I cannot comment further on this.

The hotel is very well placed to get the most out of your visit to venice. Staying on the Lido allows you to escape the busyness of the main island and sample a quieter more residential environment - still with plenty of canals around and nice restaurants within 5 mins walk. The boat dock is only a 5-10 minute walk, we got the alilaguna from the airport for 27 euro and a 72 hour vaperetto pass for 30 euro, both are a regular reliable service with transfer to st marks only 15-20 mins.
The down side to Lido is that the beach is a mess but then you don't go to venice to sit on the beach.
The hotel is a beautiful building, and is clean and fresh inside. We stayed in a junior suite on the 4th floor facing the road but it was quiet with double glazing and a view across Laguna to St marks square.
The staff are really friendly and can't do enough to help, breakfast was good for a continental offering with bacon and scrambled eggs thrown in - you have to get there early to get the croissants though!
The spa was nice, we went there once to ease our legs after all the walking in venice.
The restaurant is interesting. if you do try it, it is worth trying the steak which although expensive is served in a very interesting way shared across the table with a central hot plate.
All in all a great hotel for your base, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Top floor is very quiet

We flew out on the 11th April from Luton and arrived at Marco Polo airport in the afternoon. It was my first trip to Venice and my better half arranged our visit to celebrate my 50th on the 1st May. Transfer from the airport to lido was by water bus and we paid 27 euros for a return rather than worry about paying to come back.
The trip over was nice and unrushed.
On arrival at Lido we just headed inland from the boat and straight up the main street towards the beach. To be fair its only a 5 to 10 min walk.
The hotel is on the left and is imposing at first glance. You are greeted with a red carpet effect matting up to the main doors.
Inside you are greeted with a smile and by staff who do speak English if you are worried about speaking the lingo. Passports are checked and room key appointed.
I personally would of liked a bit more information on the hotel at reception but you only need to ask.
Our room was 114 a basic room which to be honest served its purpose. We had a fault on the shower riser rail but one quick chat with reception was soon sorted.
The shower itself was basic but clean and hot. Just what you needed after a long trip from home. Towels were clean and available fresh every day.
As with a previous reviewer the TV was poor we sat and watched BBC news lol lol. But to be fair you don't come away to watch TV.
They do have a Spa which we didn't get chance to try , but will next time.
Breakfast was lovely and plentiful. Don't go expecting a full English Breakfast however you do have some bacon and scrambled eggs. You also have lots of choice of ham, cheese, toasts, cakes, fruit, yogurts, tea, coffee, juice. I could go on and on with what was available. We had so much in the mornings it lasted us most of the dayThe hotel had two big parties of Americans who were friendly and used it as we did as a base to explore Venice.
They do an evening meal but we never had the chance to try it as we explored the Venice area and stopped for eats while out.
They have a bar which is like all bars in the area not cheap but served up a nice Mojito.
Overall the hotel is clean, has good staff ,good breakfast and is in a lovely location close to the beach and boat bus service. Would we stop here again yes, however we would probably upgrade the room.Boat trip to Venice is 7 Euros each one way . 14 Euros return and about 20 mins away
I have reviewed the area and Venice separately.

We stayed four days in a junior suite which was nice. They brought us a crib for our infant and the room was clean and pretty nice and spacious. The breakfast was good. All in all, a good stay.Only complaints were; the TV... weird cable channel programming, hard to understand and they took our passports for an hour... note to hotel: people do not like giving their passports away for any period of time. Small complaints for a nice hotel.
Ok, as for the rest of the Lido, it was really nice, lots of places to eat and shop and once you get the hang of the water taxi, it's a breeze. My only real complaint about the entire trip to Venice and in particular, the Lido area was the condition of the beach on Lido. Maybe it was off season, but the amount of trash on the beach was disgusting. I'm from San Diego and it can get pretty dirty on the forth of July but it is generally cleaned up in few hours after the celebration.. and kept that way.
The hotel was great though.

We stayed here fro a long weekend and it was great. They do a super breakfast buffet an the rooms are clean and good quality with antique furniture and lovely bed canopies. The bathroom was not large but perfectly usuable. The hotel is nice, slightly dated but in a charming way. It was all spotlessly clean and we found all the staff to be charming. A nice quiet pace to stay only a boat hop to St Marks Square. Lunch on the beach at Lido was great, yes the restaurants in Venice are expensive, but its Venice, what do you expect? The bike hire on Lido was great fun, we rented a car type cycle bike thing and we have never laughed so much. Would definately recommend this hotel

Room Tip: All rooms we saw looked good, island is quiet but some have street lights on the front but all rooms...
