“Really nice and good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

We stayed here during the Venice Film Festival and we had such a good time! The hotel is conveniently located on the main road in Venice Lido, just a few minutes walk from the harbour and another 5 minutes from the beach, next to the shops, supermarket etc,,
The exterior part is really impressive, and the garden was well kept as well. Also the common parts, such as the bar or the rooms on the main floor were really nice.
Reception staff was awesome, really. We were given our keys and we were explained a couple of things: SPA was not included in the room rate and you had to pay 20 € to access it. I didn't, so I cannot share my opinion about that. We were given a room on the first floor on the back of the building. The room was nice, quite big, with king size double bed. There were some stains on the wall I think made from the previous guests; bathroom on the other side was simply immaculate with a modern shower in it. In the toiletries there wasn't the shave, nor they had it in the reception. With the window open you could clearly hear the annoying noise of the generator so if you need silence, definetely get a room on the front. Under our room there was the infamous room overlooking the generator which we thought was the "economy double room" given for 60 Euro.
Anyway, we enjoed a good sleep and checked the breakfast on the following morning served until 10.30. I read some mixed reviews, but I was satisfied with the choice and quality of the pruducts and I really liked the luminous breakfast room. I would change. the bread, that was not freshly made but congelated; the juice, because in a 4 stars is really depressing having the juice machine instead of the jars and finally the coffe machine for the same reason: I would expect a service at the table for that.
Checkout is conveniently set at 12.00. Summarizing, we had a very pleasant stay at this hotel, and we'll be surely be back!

We had a great time at the Grande Albergo! The adjoining rooms were perfect for a family group and the location was spot on. You could walk to the vaporetto stop in 5 minutes. The hotel even rescued my son's teddy from the laundry and returned it to England 2 weeks later. The staff were very helpful and we had a superb week in one of the world's most fascinating cities!

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at this hotel. The boats to and from Lido are convenient and easy. I would recommend buying an unlimited pass for your entire stay. This pass allows travel to and from the mainland as often as you like and is even good when taking the ferry and your car back. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Glacial is a very nice restaurant just down the street which I highly recommend!!

My review might not be short as there was information i did not get on costs when on trip advisor

On arrival at the airport there are ticket stands for Alilguna. You will wait ages as they are not easy to understand and there is a ticket office where you get the boat (out of the airport and go left) the boat is 15euros each not 12 which the hotels website states (confusing when you are trying to locate the correct one to buy tickets) there are two lines which run to Lido taking 50-70mins to get there.

On arrival Lido is lovely and the hotel is half way up the street, easily walked in 5mins no need for taxi! It is gorgeous, friendly staff!! We arrived at 12ish and our room was not ready but left our bag with reseption and went out for lunch! when we came back our bag was in our room waiting for us! Rom was gorgeous and over looked the main street and the bar (we were out late most nights but double glased and shutters so we didnt get disturbed by noise)!

We found that drinks cost between 6-8euros (8 for most at the hotel and in venice). We had a two course meal in Lido for about 100euros and the same in Venice for 130euros (they added a service charge so watch this if you dont want to pay). One big thing we noticed was that if you order say a steak it is JUST a steak no chips etc same with anything if you want things with it they are extra!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR TOP OFF IN VENICE!! my husband did until he told he could be arrested for it lol

When getting busses think about passes before you get them, it frustrated me that going one stp or 15 would cost the same!
If we went in the morning and werent going back for dinner we just walked about in venice itself this mean we just bought returns not a day pass(14euros each instead of 18. Also becareful if buying a day pass and are hopeing to go back in and use it at night that a day pass is a 12hour pass a 24hour pass is different so if you go in at 9am you cant return after 9pm!! We also noticed that we never had to swipe or get our tickets checked from venice end!

Getting the Alilaguna back leave enought time for an hour boat journey!! Do not get on with out a ticket!!! we saw people being fined 60euros a head as they had the wrong ticket! another thing you will be told 3hours in advance but we stood in line for an hour and then were told be could not be checked in untill 2hours before...we had to go to the back of the line!! sooo frustrating.

All in all fab holiday lovely place with Lido having a beach it meant we could relax after a day walking around!! Everyone says its expensive and yes the food and drink is and the transport but if you really think about what journeys you are going to make before buying tickets etc you will save some money!!

Hotel is fab recomend to anyone!! Enjoy

Room Tip: We has luxury superiour room it was fab!

This hotel is located in the main street of Lido, 5 mins walk from the beach and 5 mins walk to the passenger ferry to Venice (vaporetto) - which is either a 15-25 mins journey dependent on the boat taken. This is a good experience to have and the service runs all night to St Marks Square so the main sights of Venice are easily reached. The hotel is surrounded by local shops and restaurants and is vibrant although not busy.
The hotel itself has a grand facade and a lovely outside bar - great place to relax in the evenings. Breakfast is comprehensive though the room is a little small and gets busy at peak times. The staff are both friendly and helpful and attend to requests quickly. The rooms are a little old-fashioned and could do with modernisation, however this add to the feel of the historic building. The hotel is quiet at night and access to rooms is good with both lift and stairs. A nice place to relax if you do not want to be in the throng of the tourists in Venice.

Room Tip: Shop around on the internet - as good deals are there to be had for this hotel.

On arrival at the Grande Albergo you are blown away by the beauty of the building but unfortunately that's where it stops. Our room was small and dirty, we had to wear shoes in the room at all times as the floor was so dirty (including the shower!). Our bed was very hard and so we found it hard to sleep, the only plus point is that the hotel is very well air conditioned which we were thankful for with the 38 degrees heat from outside. Our safe was broken so we reported this straight away to the front desk and they sent a staff member up to help us, he said that they would get us a replacement safe asap and was very apologetic. We waited in our room for around 2 hours for the staff to come back with our safe so that we could go out and they never returned, we asked at the front desk twice more and in the three days that we stayed there the safe did not get changed. The breakfast wasn't much to shout about and there were ants crawling across our table, we moved to the next one and there was still ants on the table. The hotel in places smelt disgusting, there was a strong smell of urine on our floor. The plus side is that the beach down the road is fantastic and free so we spent our time there and away from the hotel and is great for escaping the hustle and bustle of Venice in peak season. We are really disappointed with this hotel as we stayed there as part of our honeymoon and it was far from luxurious.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

Everything about our stay here this week was great! We stayed primarily to dance tango on the terrace but got so much more! Our room on the fourth floor was quiet, large and very comfortable indeed. Breakfast was good and all staff very friendly! Would stay there again happily.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking terrace will experience some noise during dances which are held more than one nigh...
