Sometimes you just have to get back to basics. Sure, you could stop at the Travelers Oasis and just have the salad bar (and a good fresh salad bar it is) but the truckers up and down I-84 just can't be wrong when they schedule their stops at the Travelers Oasis for the famous chicken fried steak platter. They don't lie when they call it a platter. The deep-fried cube steak laps over the edges of a serving platter. Then they bring another platter with your sides -- mashed or baked potato or tater tots, plus a dish of vegetables. Then, if you've ordered a scone (comes with the meal, or you can have toast or a dinner roll), the scone comes out on a platter. Is there room on the table?? Is there room in your belly?? Doesn't matter. It's all smothered in your choice of gravy and guaranteed to put Dr. Oz into a righteous coma. There's also a smaller portion if you don't have room in the cooler for a take-out box. Great breakfasts (served anytime) and lunches too, and dinners, though I always order the same thing. (Bet you can guess what it is.) Let me explain my stars below... it's 5-star truck stop food, and the atmosphere is typical truck stop. One hint: feed yourself here, but take your car 10 miles down the road and fill up at the Flying J. The Travelers Oasis has the most expensive gasoline in the Magic Valley.
