Description: The Cedars Floating Restaurant is Idaho's premier floating restaurant, featuring the freshest fish available daily and Midwest and locally sourced Choice Beef. The Cedars, founded in 1965, floats at the confluence of Lake Coeur d'Alene and the Spokane River and is renown for providing quality food and service. Recently installed is an 18 foot salad bar, stocked with the freshest vegetables, fruits and variety of items to make a fabulous experience at the Salad Bar. Buoyed by 600,000 pounds of concrete encased styrofoam, The Cedars is the perfect setting to take in breathtaking views of Lake Coeur d'Alene and Northwest delicacies such as Cedar Plank Salmon and a Biergarten Filet. With one of the Northwest's finest wine selection and a full service bar, The Cedars is just waiting to quench your thirst as you pull your boat up to one of our spacious docks. The Cedars hosts holiday parties, meetings, and special events.

As summer Coeur d'Alene Lake residents we have been occasional Cedars diners for decades, and have watched the quality vacillate - sometimes very good- sometimes average - steady and fairly reliable. Recently reviewed in "Spokesman-Review" in stellar terms, it seemed time to go again and take visiting "foodies" from Seattle. Reserved (even Monday evening you must) @ 7 requesting a window seat, then asked how to receive Boat Docking assistance which had been much haled in the review article in Newspaper. No idea what I was talking about. - Oh well, don't need help anyway, just checking on review.
We arrived at 7 and were quickly seated at a great window seat, and in minutes had water and wine from their extensive wine list, which has prices small to astronomic (if you have an expense acct and need to impress). Wonderful waitress, Kim, who we have had before described specials and a few of the menu items and sent us off to the salad bar. As always there are so many items and just know that this 40 feet has everything and more!
Back at table Kim got our orders, and we conversed and relaxed with our friends. Just as we finished salad our plates arrived - great flow and rhythm at today's Cedars (hadn't always been the case). The reviewer had praised the planked Salmon (not my favorite way to have it) so I decided to give it a go and was delighted with the moist perfectly done filet and sauce. Truly delicious and memorable fish which I plan to order again soon. Wife had steelhead (grilled) and shrimp (grilled on Skewer and very large and tasty) and was pleased. My friends steak was perfect and his wife's grilled shrimp skewer very nice. The veggies were all cooked just right, not overdone or mushy. Throughout our stay we were checked on frequently, and after the meal was cleared were offered a wide array of delicious sounding deserts, but being sated we deferred desert, except that my friend, having his birthday was comped a large birthday cake. As dusk settled over the lake we boated home from a pleasant evening.
This is the best Cedars experience - food, service, atmosphere, ambiance - in our decades of dining here. Not always a fan of Hagadone Hospitality, I must give them credit for taking a pretty good restaurant, and in two years raising it to greatness. Our Seattle Foodie friends were amazed.

This is our first time at this restaurant, and we were not disappointed. First, the view is as everyone says, Wow, right on the water as you watch the boats going by!!

Their steamed clams are absolutely to die for ... as long as you're ok with lots of butter and lots of garlic. I nearly filled myself up lapping up the butter/garlic broth that the clams stew in !! The salad bar is well endowed with a variety of items including crumbled blue cheese bits, huckleberry dressing (mmmm...), and lots of items to select.

For the main course, I ordered their Pan Seared Scallops. These large size scallops were done to perfection, melted in your mouth, They sit over mashed potatoes and French green beans over bacon. My "only" criticism: these scallops have bits of gorgonzola over the top and gorgonzola cream sauce along the edge of the plate. This is NOT a good combination and the two flavors do not mix well, imo. Gorgonzola (Blue Cheese) is much too strong of cheese flavor to go with the subtle flavors of well cooked Scallops. In their defense, the menu states the scallops have gorgonzola ... which I didn't notice. If I had noticed, I would not have ordered it. I order Scallops in many sea food restaurants, this sauce was a disappointment for such well cooked Scallops.

My wife had the skewered Prawns. They were very large, tender and tasty. She felt the spices on the prawns may be a little overwhelming, but she generally enjoyed her meal.

Overall our experience with the restaurant is very good. The waitress was attentive and very good. Since soup or salad bar is included in the meal, we didn't feel it was overpriced for what you get.... the view is a bonus.

Was skeptical going in from past reviews-- but very happy to report they turned it around!
There may be a new manager , not sure but she was on top of it by just being seen everywhere. Service was very good--very experienced waitress --salad bar was wonderful and you can go back(try their warm rolls or veggie biscuits)- There were five of us and every meal was very good... Two of us had their Wood plank sockeye salmon, perfectly prepared..along with green beans/baby asparagus/corn on cob and again, just bright green and crispy and everything on the plate hot when it arrived. We were in no hurry and our waitress picked up on that and did not rush us.. Big milestone birthday!
I really thought highly of a small mistake of a forgotten drink order for one of us, no biggie but it came a little later and no charge..she missed it on the computer..
They have an outside covered deck that rolled with the waves and young families with small kids gravitated to that area it seemed.. we were inside main and had a fantastic view of the lake..rolling hills..
Kudos to Cedars and keep up the improvements..

What a pleasant surprise. Here is a restaurant on a floating barge --- sounds like a real tourist trap. However, the food is wonderful and the staff is very helpful and more than willing to make recommendations on their menu. The scallops with gorgonzola cheese is fantastic and the fresh salmon on cedar plank was done to perfection. Desserts include wonderful Huckleberry cheesecake and delightful cookies. And, the salad bar is well maintained with fresh items.
