As summer Coeur d'Alene Lake residents we have been occasional Cedars diners for decades, and have watched the quality vacillate - sometimes very good- sometimes average - steady and fairly reliable. Recently reviewed in "Spokesman-Review" in stellar terms, it seemed time to go again and take visiting "foodies" from Seattle. Reserved (even Monday evening you must) @ 7 requesting a window seat, then asked how to receive Boat Docking assistance which had been much haled in the review article in Newspaper. No idea what I was talking about. - Oh well, don't need help anyway, just checking on review.
We arrived at 7 and were quickly seated at a great window seat, and in minutes had water and wine from their extensive wine list, which has prices small to astronomic (if you have an expense acct and need to impress). Wonderful waitress, Kim, who we have had before described specials and a few of the menu items and sent us off to the salad bar. As always there are so many items and just know that this 40 feet has everything and more!
Back at table Kim got our orders, and we conversed and relaxed with our friends. Just as we finished salad our plates arrived - great flow and rhythm at today's Cedars (hadn't always been the case). The reviewer had praised the planked Salmon (not my favorite way to have it) so I decided to give it a go and was delighted with the moist perfectly done filet and sauce. Truly delicious and memorable fish which I plan to order again soon. Wife had steelhead (grilled) and shrimp (grilled on Skewer and very large and tasty) and was pleased. My friends steak was perfect and his wife's grilled shrimp skewer very nice. The veggies were all cooked just right, not overdone or mushy. Throughout our stay we were checked on frequently, and after the meal was cleared were offered a wide array of delicious sounding deserts, but being sated we deferred desert, except that my friend, having his birthday was comped a large birthday cake. As dusk settled over the lake we boated home from a pleasant evening.
This is the best Cedars experience - food, service, atmosphere, ambiance - in our decades of dining here. Not always a fan of Hagadone Hospitality, I must give them credit for taking a pretty good restaurant, and in two years raising it to greatness. Our Seattle Foodie friends were amazed.
