“Enjoyed our stay but it was just an OK RV park”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

My wife and I stayed two nights at Blackwell Island as a break during a trip to Yellowstone. We have always enjoyed Coeur d'Alene and thought it would be a nice place to spend a few days. We were right. The area is beautiful, although during the summer months the traffic in the town is horrendous!

Blackwell Island RV Park was somewhat disappointing, especially considering the cost. I was expecting more manicured sites but it was just your average place. The sites were gravel, which in itself isn't a problem, except that a previous occupant had vomited on the gravel in our site right at the spot where I had to unhook our tow vehicle. Then over the two days we were there, I occupied my time picking up pieces of glass from the site. I went to the office and let them know about both situations and, although the man behind the counter appeared concerned, and told me someone would come out to the site and check it out, no one ever showed up. It was a hot couple of days which added to the aromatics! Nuf said!

They did have a dog swimming beach which was a nice surprise, but it was waaaayyy too small. I certainly don't own a dog that can limit his enjoyment of the water or beach to such a small area, and when two or three dogs were together, they often encroached on the "human" beach. But my dog enjoyed the water, and I appreciated having the ability to let him do so.

I would probably stay again because I think the options in that part of town seem surprisingly limited, but I wish they'd take a little more care of the place.

We love this park however, the park receives a lot of visitors who think the park is a campground. They are loud, want to party late into the evening, don't want to keep track of their kids, and heaven forbid, obey the rules. The park does have rules and yes maybe some people will think they are silly. For us and others that were around us, we didn't think so. We see the Canadians and yes others bring their 5 to 10 kids into the park and let them run. That's fine, it's vacation time and kids want to play. But, at 11:00 and 12:00 midnight??? Outside our RV we had screaming/yelling kids and adults beyond 11. The staff drove around but the guests would see them coming and would quiet down. We're young minded, still love to play ourselves but for these people, they need to go to a public campground where rules are not important. Stay out of the private parks/resorts. Heaven forbid people would be respectful of others. I can not believe how many rude people that we have had. Thank goodness for the owners and their rules. Too bad they can't eliminate 50% of the abusive, irresponsible guests they have. We'll be back with hopes that some of those around us are not the 50% we talked about.

Room Tip: Ask not to be located near the pinwheel nor the low numbers in the park. All of the people who grab...

We have stayed at this campground for 4 years now. The location is great and the campground has always have very strick rules. We accept the rules and have continued to return year after year. Unfortunately this will be our last year at this campground. The staff are rude and seem to have no concept of customer service. The free wifi that is advertised does no function at all. This place will do great for a one night off the highway but for anything else take your family somewhere else.

This RV park is situated very close to the beautiful lake in Coeur d'Alene. It sit righ on the shore of the river that feeds the lake and it even has a 'private beach' where our kids spent all their time. It's very lovely and clean and super-friendly staff. Cannot recommended it highly enough!

Obviously we all look for different things in an RV park, hence these mixed reviews. We personally prefer privacy and quiet (being in our early 50's no kids no pets). We stayed here one night because we could not get into a spot at our preferred location until the next night. It was handy in terms of location, exceptionally clean facilities (washrooms and laundry) and the spaces were, we thought, quite wide. It was easy to manoeuvre as well. The staff were helpful and friendly. We did find the spots were more open than we like (but we knew this from the research and were prepared for this for a night). We deliberately kept away from the water as there were lots of children there. We did not feel the rules were over the top (in fact it's nice to know that if there are rules, they are enforced as many sites do not bother to enforce them). At $50 for the night, this was a little expensive but the amenities were of a high standard. It served our purpose and should we need to go there again, we would not hesitate. There are many private campgrounds that are way more packed in so we were happy overall.

What a great place if you can bear all the rules. No wood fires is a bit much. We have a 4 and 5 yr old daughters and didn't have a problem. They have an inground sprinkler system to keep the lush grass on each site green...this means you have to move all your stuff off the grass each night...rather annoying, but worth it for a clean campsite.

The river was great, very warm water around 75 and no current for the first week of July.

Everything about this place was very clean and well kept...and we had no problems with tyrannical keepers like some other commenters noted.

This lovely RV park is right on the water with a private beach. The sites & amenities are good, and you get a discount for paying cash. The park store is teeny-tiny and could be 3 times the size given the amount of people passing through. As an asthma sufferer, not having the soot & harmful campfire smoke was wonderful, but those wedded to the romanticism of sitting around a ring of burning wood will need to stay elsewhere.
The one downside is the number of dogs. There seemed to be a lot of them, and many of them barked on & on.
