We were lucky enough to visit BLACKWELL ISLAND for a month. We would've LOVED to have stayed another four months..........unfortunately for us, this is a much loved RV park and extending our stay was not possible as they were booked solid. Matt was so accomodating~accepting my calls to change our site numerous times due to our specific needs. The staff is incredibly helpful; the facilities unbelievably clean and the location so conducive to anything you might want to do. Be sure to visit the Wednesday night Farmer's Market 4-7pm; Roger's Ice Cream (for the BEST burgers!); Jimmy's Down the Street for breakfast (Guy Fieri visited them!!) and Michael D's for lunch. The Iron Horse on the main drag is a must do before the Farmer's Market for a great happy hour. Coeur D'Alene Chocolates has AMAZINGLY homemade caramels; lastly, the Seaplane tours are spectacular as is the city beach. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to an AMAZING vacation at Blackwell Island. We can't WAIT to get back there this September!! Thank you to the Hall family for sharing their little slice of heaven!

We stayed two days at Blackwell Island RV Park after crossing the border between BC and the USA at Kingsgate. The resort is pet friendly, with the usual rules that make for a safe, relaxing stay for everyone. The park is situated on a great location with colourful Adirondack chairs overlooking a beach on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Level pull-throughs, full service sites with grass and asphalt made it easier to tolerate the heavy rains that dogged us for our two-day stay. Hosts were friendly and informative. They gave us discount coupons for a nearby restaurant and a gift certificate for Albertson’s, a superb grocery store. Showers were excellent – large, private, clean and decorated with a nautical theme. The individual shower rooms (with toilet) also offered temperature control, which made me feel more like I was in a spa than a campground washroom. We will be returning to Canada via Coeur d’Alene and will definitely stay at Blackwell Island RV Park again.

A word on crossing the border with the family dog. If you bring pet food, be sure to check out the U.S. Border Control website for the latest restrictions. We were glad we did as our dog needs prescription dog food and we found it would be allowed as long as it was made in Canada (or the U.S.), unopened and did not contain lamb or another ingredient, which I can’t recall. We were asked about the pet food and the border control agent inspected each bag carefully, so it was well worth the time it took to check out the various restrictions.

This campground has great potential but instead it is the WORST campground we have ever stayed at! They should put a warning on their website stating this park is NOT FAMILY friendly and would rather you not bring your child or pet. The staff are all elderly and extremely crabby when we were checking in they insisted on telling us how to camp as if we had never camp before in our lives and we were teenagers or something. The park on Memorial Day weekend was only about 1/4 full, this should have been an indicator to us that we should have turn around and found another campground. There was a page full of rules, one of which is that some dogs are not allowed one type of dog they do not allow is German Sheppard their reasoning that they are vicious. Obviously they have never owned a German Sheppard because they are some of the most gentle and loving dogs they are. They are also several other large breed dogs not allowed in this campground so be warned!

To the management of this campground you should simply make your campground a permit resistdent campground for people with no children or large dogs, don't try to advertise something you are not.

My family and I will NEVER be visiting this awful campground again!

Beautiful park and great location. This would be an absolutely perfect park if you are over 50 and it is just you and your spouse. The park is ran by a group of people who are extremely crabby. Just checking in they treated us like we were stupid, repeating themselves and not listening to what we were saying. The problem with this park is there are SO MANY rules the only thing you can really do is sit in your camper. The park was maybe 1/4 to 1/2 full on a traditionally busy camping weekend- (Memorial Weekend). Right there we should have taken that as a hint, people don't come here for a reason or the camp ground would have been more at capacity. If I was looking for somewhere to stay in CDA....keep looking, you will be disappointed if you choose here. My suggestion for the management of this campground--turn this into a campground for people with no families, because your campground is NOT family friendly and that is evident by the fact you charge for anyone over 2 people. I know my family won't be staying here again.

Great Park on the river with good clean washrooms and showers. Close to downtown and both biking and walking trails. Free wi fi

Two minor cons and that is the washrooms at the far end of the park close at 9:00 pm and the hooks at the showers are small and do not work well

Overal a great park and we will be back.

The RV parks in the Coeur d'Alene area are terribly cramped with little or no facilities. Most are very old and in need of being done over. No the case with Blackwell Island. It is relatively new and was planned out as as RV park for everything except tents. There are very clean showers, a wonderful laundry facility, a lovely beach on the river and large open park areas for the kids to play. The sites vary in length but are wide enough for glides on the RV's. They could be a bit longer but I think in general many RV owners are opting for longer units, since the park is about 10 years old now. The people at the office are friendly, courteous, and very helpful in regard to information in the area. They even have a lot of menus from local retaurants to help with decisions for dining out. It was full every day of our two week stay. It is not noisy even though it is close to the highway to Moscow. It is very conveniently located to the road to downtown Coeur d'Alene and close the the city beach/park. It is by far the 'BEST" RV park located in or near Coeur d'Alena. We have been going to Coeur d'Alane since the 60's and it has grown from a sleepy little town to a modern city and I am so glad that they built this RV park on the river. Reservations must be made well in advance if you are planning to stay more than a night or two during the busy summer months. We loved it and will be back.
