“Great summer or winter!”
Reviewed November 25, 2013 via mobile

Beautiful gardens, and an amazing holiday light display in November and December. Live music venue in the summer, but I won't go there again for music. Drunks and people stabding blocking any view of the stage is a bummer.

“Secret Gem”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This garden has a lot of diversity for the visitor from the English garden, to the Lewis and Clark garden to the Children's garden and other gardens. It hosts great bands in the summer and wine tasting events. In December, the Garden lights up its trees and schrubs in an amazing display of lights in its Winter A Glow show. Located on the grounds of the old Idaho State Penitentiary in east Boise, it is a must see for travellers interested in gardens.

“Definately a good thing to do!”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Especially the Winter Aglow Christmas light festival. They spend a great deal of time with volunteers to string all the lights and the music and food and smells are fun. Normally quite cold, so dress well to move slowly and just take in the peaceful beauty with friends or family.

“Not extensive, but had some nice surprises and gorgeous fall color”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

I had the good fortune to visit the Idaho Botanical Garden on a crystal clear morning in late October. The fall colors were amazing, and I arrived early in order to take photos. Although I might not consider this a “must-see” destination, the gardens are very nice and feature an interesting, ascending walkway that affords some excellent views of the surrounding area. Give yourself an hour-plus to roam the property.

For your consideration:
(1) Parking is in gravel lots. If you want to be closer to the gardens, bypass the lot next to the ticket kiosk and drive around the “Outlaw Field” to the next lot.
(2) The grounds are gorgeous during the fall when the leaves are turning.
(3) Take the paved footpath all the way up to the “Native Plant Area” (and statue of Sacagawea). The vegetation along the pathways is very nice, and the views from the top are worth a few photos.
(4) The “Firewise Garden” is really interesting; never seen anything like this before.
(5) If you’re visiting on a weekday during the school year, be prepared to encounter commotion from a crowd of children on a school field trip.

[Note: The Idaho Botanical Garden is listed in the American Horticultural Society roster of gardens. If you’re from out of the area, your admission is free]

“Needs some cohesiveness”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Found the number of plants and variety of plants very disappointing. The varies areas were poorly planted and plants were seldom identified. I would save my money on this one and just go next door to the Old Penitentiary
