“Worth the trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013 via mobile

Had time to kill and found this historical site. Well worth the trip. Looking forward to checking it out again, there is a lot of information to take in. Very interesting history and well preserved. Hanging room gives you chills for sure. Love that you can take a self guided tour to go at your own pace, but I guess you might miss some history going that route. Can't imagine the night tour...creepy!!

“Super Creepy. Good for a Halloween visit!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2013 via mobile

It's pretty neat that they preserved this place. It's really a cool old building and very close to downtown. It is creepy, however! I'd recommend going here right before Halloween for a good spook. For an average day though, it's pretty heavy.

“Very interesting place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

We took the guided tour. The volunteer was very knowledgeable about the history of the prison. She really took time to answer questions and provide information that was not on the self-guided tour signs.
I did not know what to expect, and it was a moving experience to hear about the people and events that shaped the history of Idaho.
It was a tough place to survive in no matter if you were the warden, guard or prisoner.

“If you like to get spooked...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

Then you will love this place. We took a self guided tour and were sure to read all the historical facts we could find. The guided tour would be very informational and fun since there is a rich history of violence and general creepiness in this place. My 12 year old daughter loved it and was just the right amount of creeped out and sad for the past inhabitants of this (very) old place. We will go again, but would love the night tour next time. Yikes.
