“Great small town cafe”

The Captain's Wheel is a perfect small town restaurant/bar. They have all the basic food, great burgers, a huge nacho platter, fish and chips enough to share, onion rings and stellar potato skins. They frequently have music on weekend nights, big screen TV's for watching sports, pool tables and outdoor dining. They have a view of the lake and the floating houses. This is not a pretentious, uppity place. This is good home cooked food and friendly staff and fellow patrons. If you want to know anything that is going on in Bayview, you can learn about it here. Summers fill up with the boating summer crowd but we love it in the winter when the local residents are supporting a small business.

We stopped in the Captain’s Wheel to sit on the deck and soak in the scenery of Lake Pend Oreille! Our service was really good and the food was pub/bar type food. The potato skin appetizer is a full meal alone! Great with bacon! The taco wrap can serve two, and had great flavor! The taco salad was rather large but good for one and the onion rings rate right up there with some of the best we have found in our travels! I would stop again for the food and view!

Waitress was very personable but the chili was cold and obviously directly out of a can. When I asked if I could have the chili reheated the cook told me 'there's a microwave right there'. The cook then came through the restaurant and through the double sliding screen doors and lit a cigarette within 15 feet of where we were dining. I closed the glass doors and she basically grunted 'oh sorry... Is my smoke bothering you'.

The experience was lovely, the food was marginal but the bright spot was the friendly waitress.
