A group of us Active Adult Senior Motorcyclists ended up at the Pond View as the destination of one of our "Mystery Trips," where only one couple knows where we're going. And what a surprise it was, right in the middle of historic downtown Waycross. Who would have guessed that such a neat place would exist right here, next to an old theater, with four guest rooms right upstairs (which some believe to be the remnants of a bordello) and an absolutely terrific dining room downstairs. First, the hotel. The rooms are just fine, nice and clean and comfortable, but given their origin, without windows. There isn't too much of a common area, which we always like for our snacking, drinking and partying activities, but it was okay. Without a kitchen or cooking area, as you'd find in most inns, B & Bs and hotels, breakfast is limited to bowls of fruit plus other items that you can heat in a microwave, which is provided along with a refrigerator, a coffee machine and a toaster. No big breakfast buffet, but adequate, and the neat old place works just fine. Next, the restaurant. Nice old historic atmosphere. Excellent service by the staff and the owner. Good drinks. An excellent selection, including the best pork chop on the planet. Who would have guessed that you'd find such a place in the middle of Waycross? Not us. So if you're visiting the area - and there are plenty of things to do around here, nature-wise - and if you're looking for a unique dining and possibly staying over experience, we highly recommend Pond View.
