We had a lovely time at the Shervinton! Highly recommended. Friendly staff, great food (esp the breakfast buffet). Loved the Tawau hills Park . Sea food restaurant, Happy hour drinks at the sky Bar by the watching the sun set - it doesnt get any better than this.
Things to bear in mind:

. Do call the hotel reservations line. We checked the rates on several websites including the hotel's own site. The rates were about the same. We finally decided to book via the phone reservations line and were pleasantly surprised as they had a school holiday rate which was approx RM88 cheaper!

I would say that when i check in at Shervinton Hotel, i was quite impressed with the hotel and price offered. Even without the promotional price, it is still consider worthy. Im lucky to get the promotion rates and for that i give Shervinton an early 5 Star. The room and breakfast was very nice and worthy for it price, and so do the hotel ambiance. My good impression shattered during my check-out process. The Front Office Staff was extremely rude and as a former hotelier and Hospitality lecturer, i would say that the attitude is unacceptable in hotel industry specially for Front Of The House Personal like her. I was already very nice to her, i initiate the smile that she reluctantly giving, Im the one who greet her "Good Morning", and in return all i got is "hmmm". The staff name was Medelin and i need submit a feedback form but i highly believe it has been thrown away, since theres is no statement or feedback from the management. Chronology of what happened that morning were as below:

I Smile and Greet - Request for Check Out : The Receptionist didn't responses to my greetings and didn't even smile.
I was waiting for the receptionist's feedback for the check-out but then she just left me there hanging. When my friend went asking, whether its done or not, she responses to us with one word "yes". After that she turned her head away. My assumption is that, she is preparing the bill, but appears that she is not.
After several minute, i ask again " where is my bill"? The staff replied " Oh, you need it?", then she went for the bill, put it in envelope, place it on the counter in front of me and walk away without any guilt or at least courtesy of thanking our stay there.
Apart of her, there another male receptionist there, and throughout the event, he just stared and did nothing.

I will banned this hotel for lack of hospitality skill and will definitely not encouraging any of my colleague to ever stay here.

Great and friendly staff. Room interior and furniture is good. The only down thing is the smell inside the room with no window to open. One night before going to semporna was enough. Otherwise overall it is a good location around everything you need.

Out of the three hotels I stayed in Tawau, this has the best interior design (note: it has a carpet, suede and leather chairs, and a more modern design)
Located in the same block as many other hotels, its advantage is it is newer than the rest and has more things to offer; free sauna for hotel guests, breakfast included, room service (most hotels in Tawau do no offer that), it has even a sky bar lounge (which I did not managed to visit as it was closed for private function during my stay).
In terms of internet, the wifi was very fast during my first day of stay, but not so much on the second day (the hotel did put a memo stating this problem).
The whole atmosphere of the place gives it a professional feel hence it is suitable for business people, but that does not mean its not for family or leisure, because the room space is big enough. plus they have iron/ironing board, a safety box, and hairdryer placed inside each room. TV was allright with selected Astro and local tv channels.
For picky people, I'd recommend this.

Room Tip: my room was located on the side-end, the one facing the taxi stand, which i dont feel so comfortable...

This hotel is in a newer area of Tawau (a few blocks from the old downtown core) and is only a few years old. We booked an Executive Suite which was a moderate sized room with a bathroom, but it had windows and was nicely furnished. It was in an area of the hotel with controlled access. An interesting touch was a picture window between the bathroom and the bedroom - though it had a blind that could be closed. The fitness area is on the top floor along with the restaurant and it was being renovated so it was not open. The breakfast buffet was fairly extensive and not bad - though certainly not great. The dining room furniture is already looking somewhat scruffy.

We could not make the wi-fi work although the hot spot was in the hallway just outside the door.

Keep in mind that Tawau has zero touristic interest so the hotel does not cater to tourists, with most visitors appearing to be Malaysians with families or on business.

The staff at the desk and at the "concierge" were pleasant. We enjoyed ourselves well enough there.

We used the hotel shuttle van to return to the airport, which was convenient because of our luggage, and about the same cost as a taxi. There is a taxi stand outside the hotel as well, and numerous restaurants and shopping nearby. Nothing specifically for tourists, which was fine with us.

I checked in to the Shervington on January 3 and checked out a few hours afterwards, sacrificing the first night's payment. Initially I was given a room without a window - a concrete coffin that you might expect in a 1 or 2 star place. Then the restaurant staff said that if I wanted a beer I would have to sit outside to be served - a piece of bigotry I have never before encountered in Malaysia.

The Health Club is closed for renovations - but that wasn't disclosed when I made the booking.

Finally, the in-house travel agent from North Borneo Tours could not even arrange a rental car.

There are many nice, inexpensive hotels in Tawau. Don't stay at the Shervington.
