I stayed at this hotel on a Tuesday in May, when wildfires shrouded south Georgia and north Floridia in smoke.

I paid $104 for a clean, quiet room on the top floor. The bed and pillows were soft.

The hotel offered Newsweek, Time and a couple of other magazines in the exercise room. They had about a dozen copies of each issue, so I took a couple up to the room and returned them later. Coffee was free.

Valdosta State University was less than two miles down Baytree from the hotel. It was a great place to take a jog: a clean campus with plenty of sidewalks.

The hotel is across the street from a mall and all the chain stores and restaurants you usually see around a mall, including a Hooters and an Atlanta Bread Company. A Publix grocery store is just around the corner.

Overall, I was highly satisfied with my stay. And I was pleasantly surprised by Valdosta.

Valdosta is a good location for us to stop on the way to Florida but finding a good hotel there has always been a problem until we stayed at the Courtyard. Great Lobby, great breakfast, clean comfortable rooms and a most helpful staff...it's a bit hard to find but in a safe location near the mall and theatres. It's a gem in a field of average or below-average hotels in the Valdosta area.

Stayed here on a stopover to Disney. Nice, clean room with very comfortable beds. Wireless internet is free. Hot breakfast buffet is reasonable at $6.95. I would definitely stay here again as a stopover point headed to Florida destinations.

We're Floridians, and for the last four years, we've stopped at the Courtyard Valdosta on our way back from visiting relatives in north Georgia for Christmas. Given the relative quality (or lack thereof) of other roadside options along the I-75 corridor, this place stands out as a jewel.

It is convenient to I-75, but not right off the road, so noise is not a factor. That being said, it's just across the street from the mall and adjacent to a theatre megaplex, so if you arrive early enough there are plenty of things to do before you turn in.

We love this place because we have two small children, and the Courtyard does everything possible to make our stay with them a pleasant one. The rooms are impeccably clean and fairly spacious, and if a crib is ordered in advance it is in the room upon arrival. For me especially, the layout helps, because I typically do not go to sleep as early as the rest of my family. So once I get them tucked in, I go down to the lobby where there is a big television with a cozy area to sit in, with doors leading out to a clean pool. There is a small but clean exercise room with a television, treadmills, and universal weight station. Also near the lobby is a monitor with free internet access. Adjacent to that is a little area I can only describe as a public pantry with snacks and a microwave, and there is even beer and wine on ice available from the front desk. In other words, the hotel goes out of its way to create a cozy little venue where guests can spend time while the rest of their families are sleeping, something I can really appreciate.

The hotel also features a breakfast buffet, which is OK but nothing to write home about. The staff, though, has always been consistent and competent, and check-in/out has always been a breeze. Again, compared to its competition, this place cannot be recommended highly enough.

This place was definitely nicer than many other options in Valdosta and we will definitely stay there again. We stayed there in July 2004 and it was perfect for what we needed. Also, the pool was terrific!!! We've stayed in lesser places in Valdosta and we recommend this hotel.
