Description: The Crab Shack isn't just a restaurant, it's a destination! We seat more than 700 guests and offer both indoor and outdoor dining options. Both dining rooms and our outdoor dining deck offer picturesque views of Chimney Creek. Both the young and young-at-heart will enjoy our interactive, educational "Gator Lagoon" which is home to 78 baby alligators; our aviary which is home to more than a dozen rescued exotic birds, and our "Gift Shack". The Crab Shack offers traditional Low Country fare, including fresh streamed and boiled seafood and slow-cooked BBQ. We also have a kid's menu available with burgers, hot dogs, and pizza. The Crab Shack is and always has been a family owned business, and recently began shipping our entrees in ready-to-be-cooked kits through LoCo To Go. Stop by and experience all we have to offer for yourself!

This place is not only about the food, but the experience as well! We would always order the huge platter of shrimp, crab, and crawfish, it was always fresh and good eats! We always went in the summer and would sit on the deck! So much fun!

“Love it! We will be back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2013

We went here for the first time in 10 years (since our cheap college days!) and were not disappointed. The place has expanded, large gravel parking lot and lots of enclosed seating decorated with lights. Menu is not lengthy, but with the name, you should know what you're in for. My friends got the full pound of crab, I got the 1/2 crab, 1/2 shrimp, and it still felt like a LOT of food. Plates were $15-20 each and included 1/2 ear of corn.

Food came out quickly, and there is in fact a hole in the table to throw your trash. There's a whole roll of paper towels on each table, and a sink right in the middle of the restaurant to wash your hands when you're done (complete with yummy-smelling salt scrub!), so I'm not sure where the complaints about napkins or lack of wipes are coming from. Good value and good food, we came at night in January so we weren't there for the touristy alligators or gift shop (where I thought about buying the salt scrub, but it was $24 a jar!).

“Not sure what the draw is”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2013

We tried this several times over the years and always found it to be stinky, dirty and the food was bad. I think most people who rave about it are 3-4 beers in before they get their food. At that point you could bring them anything and it would be delicious as part of the fun, buzzed experience.

Don't go here if you plan on eating sober, I guess that is my advice.

A nice little change of pace from downtown Savannah. Casual, good seafood, and some killer fish stew.

“A disappointment”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

I had such high hopes for the crab shack. Perhaps it was the glossy pamphlet, the promise of alligators or the presumption that seafood on the coast was bound to be good. I was therefore surprised to find that this was the worst restaurant we ate at during our two week tour around some of the southern states of America.

To start with, the smell of the restaurant was musty and unpleasant and the tables were nearly all empty. I've usually found this to be an indication of poor food, but with all the hype surrounding the place, we decided to give it a chance. The food and drink came on polystyrene plates and cups. This is very unusual for where we came from, and generally something associated with take away food rather than a crab restaurant. Still, we remained open minded until our first few bites. Unfortunately, the food, like the smell, was appalling. We had devilled crab - a mush of tasteless paste mixed with small pieces of shell. By American standards, the portions were small, and for the price, a complete rip-off.

The waitress didn't ask if we wanted dessert or any more drinks, but instead slapped our receipt on the table and wandered off to chat to her co-workers (we hadn't indicated our dissatisfaction with the meal for fear of being rude, so there was no reason for her to think we were ready to leave).

At this point, feeling very disheartened, we left without asking to see the alligators. We since heard from locals that the general consensus is that the food is poor and over priced. I presume from the overall rating that the restaurant picks up in the height of the season as I if it was anything like we experienced I just can't see how anybody would enjoy it.
