Description: The Crab Shack isn't just a restaurant, it's a destination! We seat more than 700 guests and offer both indoor and outdoor dining options. Both dining rooms and our outdoor dining deck offer picturesque views of Chimney Creek. Both the young and young-at-heart will enjoy our interactive, educational "Gator Lagoon" which is home to 78 baby alligators; our aviary which is home to more than a dozen rescued exotic birds, and our "Gift Shack". The Crab Shack offers traditional Low Country fare, including fresh streamed and boiled seafood and slow-cooked BBQ. We also have a kid's menu available with burgers, hot dogs, and pizza. The Crab Shack is and always has been a family owned business, and recently began shipping our entrees in ready-to-be-cooked kits through LoCo To Go. Stop by and experience all we have to offer for yourself!

Without a visit to The Crab Shack. It is hard to find, and you will most likely do a couple of turn arounds, but it is well worth the effort. We happened to go on the night the Pirate Ball was going on and it was a hoot. Everyone, except us ( a bit awkward, but no one minded) were dressed as pirates. The food that night was buffet style, but we had eaten there before and the crab legs were excellent. The hostesses are fabulous and are ready to serve quickly and cheerily. The atmosphere is what really puts this over the top. Open air dining on the deck with wooden tables with holes in the middle for you to toss your shells. My wife loved the fat cats that roamed around looking for scraps. They were not annoying and obviously well fed. Go in the early evening to enjoy the sunset and the twinkling lights in the trees.

“Crab Shsck Rocks!!!”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

My son is stationed at Fort Stewart. The Crab Shack is the highlight of any visit. We all adore Crab Shack. My son's friends, his wife (just got married) & her family. The Low Country Boil is delicious. We have had that at other restaurants down here & it wasn't as good. I have also had the Shrimp Salad Sandwich & Shack Stew which is the lunch special. The paper plates & cups, paper towels & the hole w/a trash can in the middle of the table is all part of the ambience. Don't come here if you are looking for fried seafood. There is none. I love fried seafood, but you won't notice. The restaurant is only closed 3 days a year, so u don't have to worry about it being closed.

“Skip the Crab Shack”
Reviewed October 6, 2012 via mobile

I will likely never return to the Crab Shack. The service was below par and the menu was very limited- nearly everything comes ONLY boiled (I would prefer an option of blackened, grilled, etc.). The kids menu was really poor as well; they don't even offer chicken as an option for children. The only choices were pizza, shrimp, or a hotdog. I just cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.

“Where the Elite eat, in their bare feet!”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

The Crab Shack is definitely, well, different! You park in a dirt/sand parking lot and can either enter the restaurant deck area under the big crab, or go down the walkway and see the Gators, yes, Alligators in the pond area just outside the front of the restaurant. You can purchase a baggie of gator snacks, which you place onto a fishing pole like contraption and lower the snacks down to the hungry gators. Not something you see everyday, that is for sure.

The dining is either on their deck under the trees, right on the marsh and waterway, or dine inside the enclosed dining area.

The tables have a large hole in the center and a trashcan underneath, so no matter what you are eating, you can toss your trash down the hole, or hatch as the case may be.

My family had a great time, the food was prepared well, it was nice and warm when we received it. We had crab legs and the sampler platter for two(which really could feed three). The Sweet Tea was awesome! The wait staff was attentive and courteous. When you are done dining, there is a sink out in the dining area so you can wash your hands and face off and there are towels and even a nice hand scrub lotion(for the ladies in your party).

I would absolutely recommend it as a MUST VISIT experience, if not for it's quirkiness(the gators), the deck(on the water), or the great food, you can't miss this! Enjoy!

“Just Okay”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

As noted by others, there is a real circus atmosphere here, with the alligators, gift shop, birds, strolling cats, etc. The food is okay, but really not special - along the lines of a Joe's Crab Shack. The kitsch and tourist-trap feel of the place is off-putting. I debated about whether to rate them as average or poor, and gave them an "average," simply because we still had a good time there. It wasn't necessarily about the food for us, on that particular day, and the location and outdoor seating were nice. Service was acceptable, but not outstanding.
