Returned to Vickis on Tybee, we were craving a good steak. This was our fourth or fifth time eating here since moving to Tybee about 18 months ago. We are walking distance, so we would really like to love the place. The first few times were disappointing for various reasons such as: A la carte menu drove the prices above what the quality of the meal warranted. No refills on coffee or soda (have read they charge for water, not sure if that is the case). Very measly side salad. Wait staff was friendly but every time we go there it seems it is always the servers first day. So many posted rules made us feel we were in the principals office not out to eat. Since we want to love the place, we gave it another try in June, were happy to find a new menu with a pretty diverse selection. We had burgers that were good and although the server was new, the service was pretty good. In a continuing effort to love the place, we decided to return and try the steak. Noticed some new rules posted at the door regarding required reservations for large parties despite the dining room being fairly empty. Our server told us it was her first night (again). We inquired about the market price of the steaks and were told the chef would only cook to a temperature of medium at most. I was bothered by this as I was the one to eat the steak, not the chef. If the chef is worried about complaints regarding overcooked steak, they could recommend a temperature of medium, but to refuse to cook to order is ridiculous. Since I eat my steak medium well, I decided to order the burger instead to be safe. (ironically, burgers are only available well done). The burger was again good, but it was the restaurants loss, instead of a $25.00 steak my husband I ordered an $8.00 burger. Might return in the future if we are craving a burger, knowing not to expect anything spectacular.
