“Beach Fun!”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

This was probably the most memorable part of our trip to Savannah. This experience is great for All ages! You get to be at the beach & also have fun collecting & learning about the sea life we found. I felt like a kid again searching for sea animals. Dr. Joe is also so informative, easy going & loves what he does which adds to the whole experience. While we were out various people would stop & see what we we doing & collecting. Dr. Joe has shovels, little nets & a huge 50 ft net to capture various things in the ocean. It was a lot of fun!

“This tour is anything you want it to be!”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

My husband and I were looking for a fun (and inexpensive) way to appreciate the island, and Dr. Joe was the perfect tour. He met us at the parking lot for a north beach, (which I understand is never very crowded) at low tide. He then led us to the beach and gave us a brief overlay of the land, the marine life and the tides. After that, we just spent the next few hours bumming around the beach, allowing him to lead us to various tide pools and asking him questions about everything we saw. He did make a touch take with some of the live specimens we caught, though we never broke out the net.

Our tour was very informal, which is what we wanted. However, I have a feeling he can provide a significant amount of structure if you have young ones, or specific things you want to see or experience. Allowing him to show us the beach was such a unique, enjoyable (and affordable!) way to spend an afternoon on Tybee! (And we spent the rest of the weekend digging up coquinas and hunting for new finds!)

“Best part of our trip!”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

Booked a tour with Dr Joe during the last part of our stay on Tybee and it was the highlight of our vacation! Three young boys were very eager to help Dr joe gather shells and crabs and learn all about the marine life on Tybee. Dr joe is an excellent tour guide and teacher and made our two hours so enjoyable. We spent a week wandering the beach and saw nothing until our tour with dr joe and he pointed out all the things we had seen and didn't know what we were looking at. Very enjoyable and worth every penny. Would definetly book again when go back. If you are looking for something to do on Tybee this is something you should not miss out on.

“Go see Dr. Joe!”
Reviewed August 9, 2012 via mobile

Tybee Beach Ecology trips are led by the very educational Dr.Joe Richardson. My family spent the morning catching, digging and learning about the beach and creatures that call it home. It was a fantastic experience, a must do if you visit the island.

“Family trip with kids, parents, and grandparents”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

My husband turned out to be right (sometimes hard for me to admit it)! The 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed the ecology trip on the beach with Dr. Joe. We ranged in age from 6, 10, 36, 65 & 70. When we left, we must have discussed our fun experience for several minutes. Best of all, my kids will probably remember that for many years to come!
