If you are looking for a Ritz Carlton type vacation spot, Tybee is not it, but if you want laid-back, fun, 50's type semi-artsy atmosphere, then you will love the beach and the rest of Tybee Island! It is only 30 minutes from Savannah in traffic, and not too far to drive from Atlanta. The beach is pretty, and there is alot of public beach access and parking. It is convenient and fun, and the city is very dog friendly too! I found this to be a very relaxing vacation.

Nice clean beach. It can get a little crowded midday, but it is so serene at sunrise. Our whole family (even teenagers) got up, voluntarily, every morning to see the sunrise. Beautiful. Plenty of wildlife too.

It was a little crowded, but it was a hot summer day, so that was to be expected. The sand was soft and the waves were big. Gotta love it!

Visited mid June. Busy beach but for the most part clean. They could use some better rest areas to change and rinse the sand out of your shorts. Get there early to find a spot to park at the city wide "pay to park" spots they fill up fast on the weekends. Rent an umbrella and bring a cooler to stay all day. That Georgia sun is hot! Love how its not too "touristy" and pretty basic. NO tourist trap here and hopefully it stays that way.

My husband and I wanted to visit Savannah but also go to the beach this year for our vacation. So, we decided to rent a cottage on Tybee. The cottage was perfect, tucked away from the main street and pretty quiet for the most part. However, we were surprised at the amount of dilapidated, "eye sore" homes on the island. There were a couple of them on our street, but lots scattered throughout the island. It really gave the whole place a very "run down" feel. I have to say Tybee Island Beach was a disappointment. The beaches were crowded and dirty. It kind of felt like Georgia's version of Myrtle Beach. A few decent sea food restaurants scattered throughout the island but nothing to write home about. Every access is pay to park, which can get really expensive! Luckily, we were close enough to walk, or at least up for the distance. Having spent many summers on the Outer Banks in NC, there is just no comparison. Next time, we would come back and spend the weekend in Savannah, but unfortunately we will not be back to Tybee!
