Made the trek to Tybee Island from Savannah. Expecting to be blown away - many friends raved about TI. Went in March (not a sun & sand beach month). TI was ordinary. Nothing special. Maybe it's the memories that keep people coming back. Roads were congest - imagine they are horrible in the summer. I'll keep looking for MY beach spot. TI isn't it....

Tybee is my new happy place !! The beach is well maintained and clean , there are plenty shops and restaurants with in walking distance . End of March may be a little chilly for swimming but it was nice enough to walk along the beach and get some much needed sun and fresh air . Have to pay for parking but its reasonable . Great place my teens and I can't wait to go back this summer !!

Clean beach with very compact sand. Some okay she'll hunting. Lots of jelly fish to beware of and some kind of flies that bite in the PM. Very pretty and nice to stay so close to the water.

I lived on Tybee in the seventies and eighties: it has seriously gone downhill since then. Now, from one end to the other, it's relentlessly saturated with cheap businesses and low-end houses.
Yes, the beach itself is still fantastic, but the ambiance is horrendous.
Stay around the historic district!

March isn't the best time for the beach area. Seems clean and has a few shops if thats what you're looking for. If you are a beach person I would recommend deep summer.
