Owner description: Fort Pulaski National Monument has one of the best preserved nineteenth century masonry fortifications in the United States. It was also the site of a major artillery duel during the Civil War that saw the first major use of rifled artillery in battle. You can tour the fortress, see living historians bringing the past to life, or watch an artillery demonstration that really immerses visitors with the sights and sounds of conflict. The monument however, is more than just a fort. We have over 5000 acres of pristine saltwater marsh, one of the largest concentrations of marsh along the coast of Georgia. Combine that with miles of trails and you have a great way to get away from our cultural history and surround yourself with the natural beauty of Cockspur Island, the heart of the monument.

Very informative. We attended the musket firing demo and it was pretty cool. The fort really makes you think when you see the way the soldiers lived, and all the cannon ball and morter holes in the outside walls of the fort.
The fort is preserved nicely and they let you wander all over the grounds by yourself or you can take a guided tour if you like.

For adults and children alike. We started our adventure by seeing an alligator in the moat! Lots of replicas of the civil war soldiers' living conditions, knowledgeable rangers and tours, big cannons and great views.

From walking through the fort......to climbing up to the top and looking out over the vast area...........loved seeing all the "guns" and seeing how the soldiers lived back "in the day".

enjoyed our time at the fort. The ranger that lead our tour knew the history well and presented it well. Also saw a musket firing demo and that too was well presented. Lots of area to walk around and enjoy a beautiful day.

This is one of the few forts that is without much damage. I found it amazing on how large it is and the number of canons that it held. This is a MUST for history buffs and students alike.
