Took my family to see the lighthouse - the kids seemed to enjoy it but it was not going to hold their attention long. Luckily it was not very expensive and we got to learn a little more history of this particular lighthouse at the site.

We wish we'd known there was a museum across the street included in the price of admission! We toured the lightkeepers' buildings (awesome to see period furniture and the attention to rennovation that the historical society did!), and we climbed the lighthouse...although most of us had to stop to catch our breath on the way up! The kind man who was manning the lighthouse in period dress was kind to our girls and answered our questions with great attention. Definately go see this Southern treasure and get some pics from the top of the lighthouse. Hold on to the rail if it is a windy day!

We had to cut our visit here short, and regretted it, so I recommend you allow several hours to take advantage of all there is to see and do here. Be sure to park in the Tybee Island Historical Society Lighthouse museum lot- your $6 admission will cover parking, so that you can save the $3 parking fee charged across the street. The old buildings on the site are interesting, but the climb up and the view from the lighthouse are exhilarating! Save some energy for a walk over to the waterfront for food and people watching!

The view is great from the top. The lighthouse and museum gives a great view of the island history.
