Built originally in the 1700's, the current version of the light house, and homes of support staff, are updated, and worth a visit, especially when in the Savannah, GA area. Just 17 miles from downtown Savannah, there is something here, (and at the old military battery, across the street), along with the beach to please everyone.

The light house is built in 3 layers, and if you choose to climb the 178 steps to the top, a great view awaits.

A gift shop, show casing local artists' work, and several homes where staff lived are open to visit.
Enjoyable area just to walk around.

The lighthouse and the surrounding buildings have been renovated and are well worth a visit.
Tybee Island has a welcoming laid back feel to it.

A good view and nice grounds. The volunteer workers were very helpful. We only climbed 100 stairs. The total is 178. There is a window after each set of 25 stairs.

After climbing the 178 steps to the top of the lighthouse the view was spectacular. It was a bit windy up top and it is not for those who are afraid of heights! There are several landings about every 25 steps or so. The only disappointing thing is when you get to the top you can't actually get to the very top where you can see out of the glass portion. But there is a door and and wrap around balcony.

This museum is included in the price of admission to the lighthouse. It's a great deal. This is not only a museum about the island but is also a museum of Ft Screvin and is located within the fort's old battery. The top of the battery walls have fantastic views of the Atlantic and the lighthouse and grounds. Very interesting for all ages.
