Not only was the food pretty poor I was short-changed by £4. Didn't realise until I returned home that day.

We have been before as not too far to do a quick visit. Hadn't however visited the 'garden kitchen' cafe before - and doubt will again!
On entering seemed pleasant enough - however staff not very inviting . There is no indication if you can help yourselves - we waited for 2 cheese scones which were staring at us all under glass, sorry plastic, dome as none of us could work out if we could just 'dive in' or would we be told off for doing so? And no plates at side so we all stood there looking a little bewildered. Finally one harassed staff member runs over - no apology for keeping anyone waiting.
Ok so now for a drink - asked for tea for two - told to help selves to cups and saucers ( on counter in front of us and server, are they not allowed to touch them?) and got teapot without a smile. Overheard lady next asking for skinny latte told only have semi skinned milk (what? Wasn't late in day) for price and how busy this place is surely have other choices such as soya?
Seating area needs a good clean - I know the great public can be nightmares when attempting to get food into their mouths ( I was a waitress at a pizza place as well as at a silver service restaurant so I know what customers get up to (or down them) when attempting the art of eating) but really staff need to get dustpan and brush just to do a little sweep so next customers (who can negotiate the wonder of getting food into mouths ok) can sit down without trying to avoid sitting/treading on food. I watched a young girl collect plates wipe table over ( ahh can see why some food on floor now - flicked food onto floor!??) but no attempt to clean around one table where one can only assume the animals from the zoo had afternoon tea!
For what you pay we really should get better service, better quality food and the odd smile from the serving staff wouldn't go amiss as well! Sorry but the garden centre is ok cafe(restaurant is really not the right wording) perhaps give a miss?! Come on bridgemere up your game!

A larger than average garden centre incorporating other retail outlets
Its nice for a run out to visit , but things available can be purchased , for us, much closer to home.
We usually call here if we are out at Dagfields
Everything you could want from a garden centre and more , but at a price

Unlike an earlier reviewer we were in time for breakfast but were not very happy with the food. This was a buffet breakfast and we must have timed it badly because some of the trays were almost empty, the bacon slices were dried up and the eggs were a bit overdone. I don't know how they cooked the tomato which was served whole, the skin peeled away perfectly but the tomato itself was "rock hard" . The mushrooms and baked beans were OK but generally speaking the whole meal was not warm enough.
