“Great little park/campground!”

James H. ''Sloppy'' Floyd Park
Certificate of Excellence

Attraction details
Owner description: Surrounded by rural countryside and the Chattahoochee National Forest, this quiet park in northwest Georgia offers outstanding fishing on two stocked lakes. Visitors can hike along three miles of lake loop trails and relax in swings while watching for the many bluebirds that live in the park. The trailhead to the scenic 60-mile Pinhoti Trail is only a 1.6-mile hike away. Children especially enjoy the playground, feeding ducks from the lake’s boardwalk and renting pedal boats. A small campground and four cottages are nestled on tree-covered hillsides. This park was named for Rep. James H. “Sloppy” Floyd who served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1953 until 1974.

“Great little park/campground!”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We camped here for the 4th with my sister's family. At first we had a bumpy start because of how the sites were reserved without people being present. However, once we settled into our site we had a great time despite the rain. The host even did a little fireworks show for the campers. It was perfect. The bathhouses were very clean. We all hiked up to the marble mine and it was a great time! I'm sure we'll all be back!

“Enjoyable Day Trip”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

My wife and I are trying to visit all the Ga State parks this year. Todays visit was to the Sloppy Floyd State park in Summerville, Ga. (about 15 miles north of Rome). The signs for the park were sufficient to easily find the park. We made the hike from the Ranger Station to the Marble Quarry. It was nice walk in the park albeit a little strenuous on the last segment to get to the Quarry. There were seats available at the Quarry to catch our breath and the view was beautiful. Luckily the walk back to the starting point was all downhill! We set on a swing next to the Ranger Station and fed the ducks while we cooled down. Bottom line a great place to visit for only a 5$ parking fee. They do have cabins and campsites but we did not tour them.

“Hidden gem.”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

Love this park. Campground is small, with 25 sites, but the sites are some of the largest I've seen, well shaded and maintained. Park has paddle boats and canoes for sale. Fishing is good, and lake is beautiful. Great for a day trip or for a family camping trip. We haven't stayed in the cabins, but have toured them and they are beautiful. It's out in the country, but only about 3 miles into town.

“Neat Hide Away Park”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

This is a neat little park, tucked away on the northwest Ga. hills. The main attraction is the two lakes, but they also have camping, picnic tables, hiking- biking trails, and a few cabins. We went over for a Day Trip. Kids loved the paddle boats on the lake. It was not crowded and we felt like we basically had the place to ourselves. It was fall when we went, so the leaves were turning nice colors. Makes a great day trip if you live close enough so the drive is doable, especially if you have small children. When you get there, they will have plenty of room to play. Closest town is Summerville, if you need to "run into town to pick up something.

“Quiet and out of the way.”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

This isn't the Smokey Mluntain getaway that Gatlinburg is, but it's just nice for a family on a low budget. It's quiet and out of the way. There isn't usually much going on. You can bring your kids and have a good time. Just watch out fro snakes. there are lots of snakes in and around the water during the summer months. But you can bring a loaf of bread and feed ducks, or rent some paddle-boats to creep around in.
