Description: The Basket Bakery originally began as a wholesale bakery with a small additional luncheon room, operated by the Frieses, a German couple. As the bakery’s customers grew, so did the popularity of Hilde's extraordinary cooking. Now in its third location, The Village Corner German Restaurant includes a traditional style German tavern, a European bakery and a cafe style dining room that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. A traditional German menu contains potato pancakes, Black Forest ham and Weiner Schnitzel among other selections. Our artistic and decorative bakery cakes are worthy of any special occasion. In addition The Village Corner boasts a wonderful banquet room that facilitates weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, parties and much more.

“Food o.k. sharing charge for kids”
Reviewed July 23, 2014 via mobile

Went there with wife and 2 kids for lunch. Ordered 3 lunches between us. Food came fast and was o.k. Nothing spectacular but o.k. I am German and know what good German food is like. Apfelstrudel was also o.k. When the bill came there was a sharing charge of $2 on it. Don't remember seeing that on the menu. Now come on, 3 lunches for 2 adults and 2 kids and they charge a sharing charge... What's next an infant on the mother's breast will get charged a sharing charge because the mother eats and produces milk for the child... Sharing charge... really...
That is bad service. They can choose their food charges but I can choose the service charge.
Would not go back. Average food and sharing charge. Not an inviting combination.

A great bar, good reuben sandwich and a great selection of beers and it's not far from the hotels inside Stone Mountain Park.
Kind of funky

“Dependable German food in an enjoyable Family Restaurant”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

We've enjoyed the Village Corner since its early days as the Basket Bakery. It is a small and personable family-owned place with a solid reputation. Both the menu and the atmosphere seem to improve with each successive visit, and we have never been disappointed. Tonight's visit was no exception, and we had the added benefit of watching one of the World Cup quarter final matches.

The menu has kept its German origin with the addition of some continental items as well as some local favourites. Each of us had different dishes, and all were tasty, especially the zitronen schnitzel, which is actually a pork schnitzel in a lemon caper sauce. In addition to a modest wine list, there are also some great German beers on tap.

You can't go wrong at the Village Corner if you want to enjoy a well prepared meal with a continental flair in a friendly atmosphere.

“Stand up behind your product”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

I was recommended by a friend of mine who had purchased a wedding cake, he raved about the cake! I ordered 3 cakes and a fruit tart. When I arrived 2 cakes were the wrong size, we could only exchange one. There was a cake premade that sat in the cooler so they took the cake back to redo the top of the cake with birthday greeting. I waited 20mins before the cake emerged from the kitchen. I approved the cake before leaving.
When I got to Covington GA the cake was a disaster and frosting had slid down the side of the cake. The 8in cake was still perfect. Of course with all these guests I had to serve the cake being without options, yes it tasted great! The next day I called and told Chris what happened.
Today I spoke to Martine who says her manager refuses to refund any portion of the cake because I served it and dint return the cake!
In all honesty I never expected a full refund but a partial store credit would have shown some type of compassion and an effort to apologize for this problem. I expected more from an establishment that has been in our community so long!

“Good Lunch Stop after Hike to the Top Of Stone Mountain”
Reviewed June 8, 2014

Four of us stopped here for a casual lunch. Good selection of German oriented fare. Service was attentive and pleasant. Food was fresh, well prepared, well presented, and delicious.

Four sandwich platters with fountain drinks including tip was $66.
