I am a native Georgian who has grown up around this park with many childhood memories that I shared with my children and now my grandchildren. Yes, the park is more commercial than it used to be but there is still special moments to share with family and friends. There are many activities to enjoy from the old river boat to the train that circles the mountain to the incline that takes you to the top.
There is a challenging golf course, trails to hike, fishing, camping, and some good old fashioned country food at the Stone Mountain Inn. There are special events at the base of the mountain and the Laser Show and Snow Mountain are crowd favorites.
Make no mistake the real star is the mountain and the carving on the front. If you want the real experience of what it used to be like, then park your car and climb the mountain for a great view of the Atlanta skyline and surrounding area.
