As someone who has lived in Okinawa, Japan for the last 4night years, I can honestly say this is as close to the food as I miss and loved in Japan! Sushi is awesome, portion sizes are well worth the price (lunch the next day). Try the chicken katsu, and their edamame with sushi is yummy!!! We love this place... just moved here to Smyrna and we have already been there 4 times.

We have eaten at Maru Sushi several times over the past few years and it just gets better and better. The food is fresh, ambiance inviting, service superb. One of the best aspects of this restaurant is that they know their clientele. Smyrna is a bedroom community with working, middle aged parents and their (sometimes monster) children. My husband and I have enjoyed date nights alone out at Maru and this past week, made Valentine’s Day a family affair taking our 3 and 7 year olds. The crowd was equally split between those with and without kids and everyone seemed comfortable. The staff was very accommodating with our kids, was understanding at a spilt water glass, and had fabulous kid friendly sodas and desserts. For adults, they offered a great Valentine's menu with tantalizing specials and a rose for me. What a great evening!

Maru has been one of our favorite local restaurants since randomly trying them shortly after they opened a few years ago. The owners are a husband (runs the sushi line) and wife (runs the front) that take extreme pride in their work and show great attention to detail. The food is excellent and imaginative and the service is warm and friendly. It is very easy to get sucked in and become a regular.

Analysis: we've been there for both lunch and dinner and have had a lot of items on the menu. Lunch buffet is an excellent value but its only open during the week and gets hectic. We prefer the pricier but more intimate sit down dinner. We like everything but love the Mexican roll and their spicy tuna (including the atomic mushrooms - spicy tuna stuffed fried mushrooms). Only complaints would be that occassionally the crowds are maybe more than the restaurant should handle and that prices have crept up over the last few years. But these are really minor concerns for a great local sushi place.

I've been going to Maru Sushi regularly for about 3 years. It is by far on of my favorite places to dine in the Atlanta area, and my favorite sushi restaurant in Atlanta. I usually go there at least once during the week, hitting the extraordinary sushi and hot Japanese food buffet for lunch, while still trying to get there for an intimate dinner experience off the regular menu. Be forewarned...if you go for lunch during the week, get there early so that you can be sure to get a table without waiting. I say this because the lunch buffet is high quality and a great value for your lunch dollar. The locals know this and it is a hot spot throughout the week.
Maru is cozy and friendly, with a large menu offering cooked Japanese dishes to please just about any appetite, from rice and noodle dishes to tempura, Teryaki and, of course, some of the most delicious sushi you'll find. You will not be disappointed. The list of available rolls is quite extensive, and each dish is prepared by the hands of a genuine culinary genius...and not just someone who knows how to cut fish and roll it in rice!
