The Cloister at Sea Island

Just returned from the Cloisters at Sea Island. We had the most amazingly fun relaxing and elegant stay imaginable. My wife has been taking people on luxury journeys all over the world for 25 years and The cloisters at sea island met every expectation. The facility is over-the-top. The hotel, the golf, the spa, the beach access and every activity under the sun makes Sea Island one of the most relaxing, enjoyable and wonderful vacations imaginable. We ate in several of the restaurants and each one was better than the last. Experiencing eating in the chefs private dining room at the Georgian restaurant, was the highlight of our trip. Watching video preparation on a private closed-circuit video screen was amazing. The meal prepared by Chef Danny, was as good as any three-star Michelin meal in Paris. The sommelier Jacob, knew everything about wines and spirits and paired every course with an amazing French wine. The pulled pork sandwich and the amazing array of southern salads was the highlight of eating at the beach club over looking the sea. From an amazing truffled bloody Mary, to the sweet tea, we covered every angle of Southern charm. The rooms were extremely comfortable and the beds rock. There were amazing feather pillows and feather comforter with incredibly comfortable soft sheets on each bed. And the best thing about the whole experience was the amazing staff. From the wonderful driver Bruce, that picked this us up at the airport, to the friendly greeting we received the front desk,we were welcomed by every staff member that we ran into during our five day stay. Our room was spotless every time we came back and we got a big smile and a friendly greeting each time we passed one of the staff members in the hall.
We would return to The cloisters at seaIsland in a second. This was a great vacation; unexpectedly both elegant, charming and relaxing and don't miss that southern hospitality and delicious home cooking. This property runs as smooth a a sweet Georgia drawl. Don't miss a visit here.

For 20+ years we have driven past this resort off of Interstate 95 in Georgia on our way to visit family. This year, we found it and stayed for 2 nights amazed and what we have been missing! The Cloisters is the epitome of Southern charm and elegance. Throw in excellent food at a variety of onsite restaurants with outstanding service, activities from Golf to beach horseback riding to shooting and this is one very special place.... with its very own movie theater! Enjoying it during Christmas makes it even more magical. The decorations were spectacular including a life size gingerbread house created by the chefs and lovely decorated Christmas trees just about everywhere! We stopped counting at around 20 trees! The Cloisters is an elegant resort with a dedicated staff providing excellence in service in a friendly, southern manner. We stayed at the beach club which provided a more relaxed ambiance but the same service by staff and beautifully maintained grounds and rooms on the beach. It was interesting you could walk from the Cloisters to the Beach club (very close) and find yourself in two very different types of resorts without loss of service, charm or beauty. This is the kind of place families gather every year to spend time together. We can certainly understand since there is something for everyone. We enjoyed the beach horseback ride (relaxing and beautiful) and the Spa of course. The Spa is one of the best I have been too. Once again the service was amazing. The spa facilities were elegant and wonderful and ahh relaxing! There is a great exercise room with loads of classes. Steam, sauna, cold plunges. Fabulous!! A small chapel on the grounds has a 30 min service on Sunday mornings. We attended and heard a marvelous sermon in a beautifully stain glass adorned little chapel. We enjoy 5 star hotels when we travel. This resort is one of the best we have even been and do not plan to drive by it again.

Room Tip: If you do not have children, I would recommend staying at the Cloisters. Families should opt for th...

Beautiful historic property with extraordinary rooms/baths; common areas are gorgeous; numerous options for unique activities - falconry classes, skeet shooting, kayaking, fishing - as well as more "resort -type" features including spa, tennis, pools and beach; great restaurants; hospitable staff. Cannot wait to return.

The Cloister at Sea Island is a treasure to behold. Our golf group spent four wonderful days there in early December and we could not have asked for a more enjoyable experience. Some stayed at the main building of The Cloister and others stayed at The Lodge on St. Simons. The Lodge is about 6 miles from The Cloister, but at the start of two of the three golf courses we played. Both venues are excellent, but the ambiance at the main hotel has to be experienced. And the Christmas decorations throughout the facilities only made it more enjoyable. Breakfast daily and two dinners at The Cloister were excellent and the staff was most accommodating and efficient. Two other dinners at The Halyard and Gnat's Landing on St. Simons were also excellent. The golf courses, Plantation, Retreat and Seaside courses were in top notch condition provided a reasonable challenge to all level of golfers.

Room Tip: I think you have to stay at the main hotel to get the true feeling of the place.

100% first class, hotel, grounds, rooms, staff. Can't say enough, but I now know why this fine resort is rated #1. The restaurants offer varied choices, with the exception of the beach club all offer top notch cuisine. The rooms are warm, cozy, spotless. There are a multitude of activities, many many family activities. PS attend the Sunday Chapel service, it represents in architecture and spirit this outstanding resort.

Our return visit to the Georgian Room at The Cloister on Sea Island for Thanksgiving Dinner lived up to our stratospherically high expectations. This time we were seated in a banquette along the wall, side by side as we preferred. While we did not again have an alcove to ourselves, we gained a wide view of all the other diners and waitstaff, making for great people watching of an appropriate discrete nature, of course, as befits the ambience and clientele of this elegant setting. Because we were on a banquette, there was, alas, no need for a special velvet stool on which Gwendolyn might lay her purse. So she roughed it, leaving it on the plush banquette. Poor purse!
Still this is a restaurant where people do come to eat, so, hey, deal with it. Again we had magnificent four course meal (sorry about the misinformation in the year-ago review, claiming there were seven courses). First was, naturally, an "amuse bouche"--- a small Chinese pork bun. My bouche was amused doubly when my vegetarian sweetie passed me hers. Appetizer course was a squash soup for the little lady and Maine lobster for me (in violation of the principle that you never, EVER, order lobster if you are not in Maine). Both were terrific. Salad course was a choice of "Autumn Lettuces, Roasted Mushrooms, Honeycrisp Apple and Sherry" and "Hearts of Romaine, Parmesan Crisps, White Anchovy, and Quail Egg." Both outasight even if you're not a rabbit but a carnivore. For the entree Gwendolyn had specially prepared mixed vegetables since only beef, salmon with bacon-potato hash and turkey were on the menu. She said her vegetable plate showed special attention, not just a bunch of whatever at hand being thrown together. I had Organic Turkey with cornbread dressing-Bread Pudding, cranberry and gravy. Very Thanksgivingish and super good. Dessert also lived up to expectations: apple pie parfait, pie crust, cinnamon streusel and ginger beer sorbet--that's ONE dessert. I opted for the caramel-pine nut tart, pumpkin pie spice ice cream, and cranberries. This visit we decided against wine with each course, economizing. I sipped an alleged Vermouth Cassis through dinner, a drink that had been prepared by the bar in the Cloister Lounge, a separate operation. A word to the wise: never, EVER, order a Vermouth Cassis at this place. They were clueless, and despite three consultations with me by waitress and then bartender the result was…chopped liver. Even my exact description of how to make the drink, while duly noted even in writing by the bartender, was beside the point. It came out sweet as sugar water, the lemon wedge necessary to cut the cassis liqueur having been forgotten. But this is a quibble set against the truly exceptional ambience and cuisine of the Georgian Room.

Thank you for choosing to celebrate Thanksgiving at Sea Island. I sincerely appreciate your warm compliments regarding your dining experiences and I look forward to sharing the compliments with our Executive Chef. Please accept my apologies for the Vermouth Cassis cocktail and know I will speak directly with our Sommelier. I hope I have the opportunity to welcome you and your spouse back to Sea Island very soon.
