From the moment of arrival, the beauty of The Cloister is apparent - stunning landscaping, beautiful flower arrangements, magnificent architecture - all with understated elegance. The grounds are lovely and lush, and the wide layout of the resort promotes tranquility. The rooms were spacious and wonderfully arranged, with impeccable attention to detail for ultimate comfort. The athletic center (really so much more than just a gym) was the best one I have ever experienced among resorts all around the world. The restaurants and bars were great. Of note was the positive attitude of most of the staff members, who were clearly dedicated to providing outstanding service.

Room Tip: South wing rooms were quiet. Beach Club rooms closest to pools and beach.

My husband and I stayed at The Cloister for their first birding migration weekend held April 12-14, 2013. (We won our trip through an auction at the Southeastern Wildlife Expo.) The customer service at this hotel is first rate. All the staff have a "can do" attitude. The rooms at The Cloister itself are fabulous. Talk about attention to detail - the tile floor in the bathroom is slightly heated so your feet aren't cold. The property itself is gorgeous so make sure you take some time to walk around and look at the grounds when staying here. One thing I loved about the hotel - lots of little private places to sit and relax or read a book or have a quiet moment or two. If you have kids, the Beach Club would be the place to be with all the pools (some heated), playground and access to the beach. Thankfully our meals were included in our package as we dined in the Georgian Room both evenings and for breakfast and the meals there are not inexpensive. We enjoyed our meals and especially the service. (Don't pass up the asparagus pudding appetizer at dinner - fabulous!) Beware though that if you eat here on a busy night, the service is noticeably slower. All in all, we had a wonderful weekend and would like to stay again provided we can find a much lower rate. (We were told their slow season is January through March and sometimes you can find "deals" during those months.)

Breathtaking resort on 5 miles of pristine beach. Great for a romantic couples get away or a family vacation. Georgian Room provides outstanding food and service. We loved the various indoor and outdoor lounges and restaurants. Many activities to keep everyone interested and busy. Highly recommended.

My husband and I just popped in for a weekend away. This is a wonderful resort that blends old world charm with modern and well appointed amenities. We stayed in a Beach Club suite and couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The rooms were warm and cozy --- traditional furnishing, without being stuffy. The property is gorgeous, no detail was left out. We don't have children so lounging at the Adults only pool was just what we needed. We had dinner at Tavola the Italian restaurant on property and enjoyed a wonderful sunset overlooking the marsh. The handmade pasta was great. And I can't sign off without talking about the service -- EVERYONE was truly amazing. We never had to ask for anything, it seemed everyone knew just what we needed and when we needed it. This property clearly has it right by creating a resort that has a well balanced blend of island vibe and southern hospitality. We will definitely be back!

Terrific resort with wonderful customer service. Very responsive. Will go back often. The spa is one of the best we have visited. Only negative is wine prices are very high and they do not allow you to bring.

I had not been back to the Cloisters in many years and this visit was like a warm bath, even though the weather was not as warm as we had hoped! We visited with a family of 10 and 3 generations. I cannot comment on the hotel accommodations as we belong to a membership organization called Exclusive Resorts and stayed in one of their spectacular 4 BR homes that is immediately adjacent to the Cloisters property (literally a 1 minute walk).

We ranged in age from 3 - 68 and there were SO many wonderful activities for our family that it was impossible to do them all -- but we tried! We had 4 little boys with us, ages 3-9, and they loved it all, from golf to "shooting school" (I think this was the favorite) to a fishing expedition, to shuffleboard, tennis, bikeriding, jigging at the plantation dinner, the children's dance party, to the pool, to the beach where we flew kites - it's hard to remember all the activities. There is a "camp" for children which we did one day and they loved that too. Bingo night was a family event; you have to dress up and it is A TRIP. Hilarious, fun and wonderful even if you don't win.

The staff was exceptionally attentive and helpful and the hotel itself is spectacularly beautiful - not in a new mega-mansion kind of way, but in a very organic, "isn't this perfect for this site" kind of way. It has a large capacity, including a convention center, but gives the feel of a small boutique hotel.

With little children, we didn't avail ourselves often of the hotel restaurants, but the ones we tried were great (River Bar and casual cafeteria-style for families on the beach) and I understand the Georgian Room is over the top. Next trip.

It IS expensive. Everything is ala carte, so almost all activities have a cost to them - but it is not unreasonably expensive.

In summation, I recommend it highly as a destination for families of all ages - even the teenagers looked happy!

It is in the south, so dressing up is in order for some of the events. But our little guys felt important!

Room Tip: Can't help much since we didn't do this, but the river views were pretty.

very well earned!
We have just returned from a fantastic stay at The Cloister and enjoyed absolutely everything.
The staff is phenomenal, the property is spectacular.
My wife and I already have a different trip planned but have decided to change the destination so we can return to Sea Island again.
